I'm all in on the Cult of Wawa. If you've never been to one imagine if a Seven Eleven dedicated itself to fresh quality food and service without bumping up the price. I know, what a ridiculous thought! And yet here's a big shiny Wawa (a bit too shiny) for you all. Wawa is love. Wawa is life. (in all seriousness, it's still a convenience store and you'll eat better at an actual restaurant, but not by much more)

I know some people aren't happy about the location, but as someone who works off Connecticut Ave and takes the metro, it's perfect for me. I can hop off of Farragut west and walk a block or so down to get breakfast and grab lunch before going into work. Not to mention I Don't have to pay ridiculous pricrs for coffee anymore. My co workers love this place just as much. Hallelujah it is here

Gather 'round, my Philly brethren. It's here. Wawa has graced D.C. with a new flagship location, right in the middle of the Downtown bustle. Be warned, though, for what glitters is not always gold. You'll find the typical vestiges of the classic Wawa experience to still be in tact: the coffee is identical; the screens feel like home; the brands are the same. You get the picture. However, this store is also plagued with the problems you'd expect of a new store, on the scale of this location's size. The on-screen ordering stations look like Swiss Cheese because they cannot keep inventory steady. (I.e. Bagels were out for two consecutive days, just a week after opening.). The staff is still VERY early in training and my order has been wrong literally each of the six times I have been in. That said, I will continue to come back every day as if this were Center City Philly, just as I'm sure many others similarly situated will. Hopefully I can update this later to reflect the score I'm sure the store will work toward.

Now, I'm a huge fan of Wawa, and in many respects, this store hits the mark perfectly, particularly their coffee. The location is incredibly convenient for me, since I work in the same block. However, I have one gripe after several visits--anything that is baked. For some reason, all of their baked goods (donuts, cookies, and sandwich breads) are always undercooked. There was a donut that I purchased that was actually still raw inside. Same with the bread. you'd think that they would have noticed it as they sliced it open, but I suppose not. Such a disappointment. In addition, the meat that I had in my sandwich seemed really...off texture. Almost grainy. While I'll still get items from there, I'll likely steer clear of the baked items and sandwiches.

I didn't grow up near Philly so Wawa is a relatively new thing to me. However as a convenience store goes, they hit all the marks. They got the chips, the giant fountain sodas, Snickers bars, soft pretzels etc. but interestingly in the DC location there is no beer. The real features however are the coffee bar and the sandwich shop. The fresh prepared foods are all touchscreen ordered and the system is simple to use. You can make whatever multi meat abomination you can imagine. As for the sandwich itself. The bread is fresh, the veggies are crispy and the meat is real. For a convenience store, you can't do much better. Also to mention, the place is very well lit and extremely clean. As an added bonus all you DC friends from Philadelphia will be here..... constantly.
