Surprise Beach in Vancouver

  Not easy to access if you fear loose boulders and rocks which is your only access route. Nice sandy beach which is cleaned often by the river tides and flooding from rain and snow melt. There are times when no beach is available. No handicap access.

  Great place to walk along the river but I really wouldn't call this a beach!

  Awesome location. Great views. Water was surprisingly warm. Maybe that's why it's called Surprise Beach. ;-)

  Really a suprise and in the most unique location! Beautiful views in a beautiful neighborhood! Great place for a picture setting and a photographers dream! Must see!

  The surprise is sometimes it's there and sometimes it isn't. Usually, the beach widens and narrows due to the tides. Right now (May 2017), it's underwater due to flooding. Access is not easy. You either have to climb down rocks or hike in through (often) homeless camps from the north (but easier access). All along the waterfront is popular when the sun comes out with an ample walkway, and plenty of benches, garbage cans, and restaurants. A great spot for watching people, sailboats, and sunsets. Street parking is limited.
