Such a nice surprise exploring the park for the first time and coming across this beautiful little cafe. They have a full menu of coffee beverages, and gorgeous indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the pond and an outside ice cream cart. It was too late in the day for coffee and I was too full from lunch to try the ice cream but I can’t wait to come down and enjoy both!

A gem of an urban park with a pond that is home to ducks, geese and beautiful carp. Great opportunity to get out into nature, entertain kids or just enjoy a lovely day.

This park needs love. Its huge and beautiful and could really be an amazing place to take your family. Its missing a doggy park tho.

Downing Park is one of the most beautiful parks in the area. Designed by Olmstead, it could be such an asset to the area, but I don't feel it is safe to go there in the daylight, let alone late afternoon or early morning. It has all the elements to make it a safe, fun place for people to gather, like Central Park in NYC, but the security is just not there. Why take a chance on getting you or your parked car robbed, when there are other places to go with your family? Too bad, but that is the story of Newburgh. I love the expanse of Broadway down to the river, the new campus, the library, the Karpale document museum and many of the shops on Broadway. I love the historic, bricked street architecture and there is a great variety of restorable, beautiful buildings, but the crabs in the pot keep pulling those trying to escape poverty back into the boiling water. There have been a lot of attempts to clean it up, but they all fail too soon. Too bad.
