::Super impressive. Fourth largest of the 7 water reserviors that supply water to New York City via the Croton Aqueduct. Croton is named a Dam Town following this huge dam. You can get T-Shirts with this printed on them. As stated on the plak, on the side of the road over the dam that is shown in the picture, there's history and facts information about the New Croton Dam (New since before it there was a smaller dam up river built 1837 to 1842): Construction begun September 20, 1992. Completed January 17, 1906. Elevation of top of dam 212.4 ft above high water at NY. Greater depth of foundation below river bed 124 ft {Wikipedia says 130 ft}. Height of dam 297 ft above foundation. Length of dam at the top 1168 ft. Length of spillway 1,000 ft. Total length 2,188 ft. Elevation of top of spillway 1964 ft above high water. Thickness at top 18 ft. Thickness at base 266 ft. Length of reserviors 20 miles. Capacity of reservior 30,000,000,000 gallons. Area of watershed 366.44 sq. miles During the construction there changed over 4 Chief Engineers, 2 Division Engineers and 3 contractors.
