A gem for those who love history and/or spooky tales of paranormal activity. The house is beautiful and has many of the original possessions of the family who lived here for one hundred years. You can take the regular tour or a tour about all the ghost sightings in this house. The staff is nice and helpful.

I really enjoyed my time here. One of the best ā€œhiddenā€ secrets in the city. Itā€™s not a very popular destination for tourists which makes it more accessible for New Yorkers that want to do something different with no huge lines. You get to learn how everyday privileged life was in the 1900ā€™s and what it meant to be rich during that era. I found out about this house in the ā€œTenementā€ Museum where itā€™s exactly the opposite (small apartments for immigrants that can fit up to 10 people). Combine these two and you will have the full experience of the living conditions in New York for that period frame. The house itself is remarkable and they were so lucky to have all the original dresses and furniture that actually belonged in that family. Do the tour with the guide and fell free to ask anything. They are very polite and happy to answer (whereas in the ā€œTenementā€ museum, the tight schedule doesnā€™t allow anyone to really explore more or have longer conversations). Honestly a must see!

This is a super interesting home to visit. It's set up in about the 1860s time period. I went for the guided tour (no extra charge) and the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. She told us all about the area, the family history, how the house was run, the architecture, and the decor. Really enjoyed getting to see this home that was inhabited for pretty much the entire 18th century.

Neat period house museum house which shows the lifestyle of a wealthy merchant family in the 19th century. Good displays and they give you a guide book to help your tour. I wish there had been more content, an entire floor (all the childrenā€™s rooms) were off limits as offices, Iā€™m guessing they need more funding to restore more. Donā€™t miss the garden, a very lovely patio, extremely uncommon in lower Manhattan.

We went to a haunted tour at the Merchant House. Our tour guide was very entertaining and kept the spooky vibe. All the people who work there are volunteers so it felt good to support this historic house. The house is beautiful. I wish i could have seen it in the daylight! It is five stories and the house was only lit by candlelight so it would be difficult for elderly or the disabled. I had a great time and will return for another tour.
