Empire State Karate has been a blessing for my two children (son and daughter). Both started when they were around 5 years old. I can honestly say that their ESK experience has helped shaped them to grow into disciplined, athletic, confident, and conscientious individuals that excel both in and out of the dojo and in and out of the classroom. ESK is the perfect combination of discipline and family. I'm confident that if you are considering ESK for your child, you will not be disappointed.

School is in dire straits. I would have previously recommended it, but no more. Prices are through the roof, ownership will nickel and dime you, and equipment is falling apart. Students are leaving in droves, parents are frustrated, instructors are frustrated. No one pays the same price. New "rules and regulations" are created daily to milk more money out of the enrolled families that are left. In Response to Charles (who is not even a student at the school): I did not quit the school, I was asked to leave because of the constant changing "rules" that the money grubbing owner liked to impose on the students. The "dress code" you speak of was a sudden new rule because the owner needed money to pay the bills since people were leaving left and right. Sell shirts and force people to wear them! That is not a dress code. In response to your comment that I just rolled off the street - I happen to be a business executive and dressed in appropriate workout clothing for each and every class that I attended. My 50 lb weight loss was in conjunction with MY healthy eating and work ethic. As a paying student there, I also instructed classes, but was not paid. Sure, go by the school, check them out. You'll see a school that is falling apart and never cleaned. They just recently fired the person who cleaned on Sundays. Yes, the school was ONLY cleaned on Sundays. The mats are disgusting, the bathrooms are disgusting. Many students even got "growths" on their feet from the filth. Last year when a pipe burst downstairs, the whole room flooded. No professional was called in to clean, the heat was just turned up to dry it out. Do you know how to grow mold? Yup, turn on the heat to dry out the water. So Charles, it is not isn't "obviously" sour grapes. You don't know the situation, you don't know squat. You never met me, you don't know me. You don't know how I presented myself in my attire or my attitude. What I know is that the owner, after reading my review, made other people leaves reviews after. It's laughable.

ESK is a great family school I have been there since I was 3 and am still a student. I have made so many friends within the school that I know will be there forever. I highly recommend this school for kids of all ages.

Classes at Empire State Karate are exciting and fun. I have been to several schools in the area and this one is by far the best. Family atmosphere and a very friendly staff make your experience at this school very enjoyable. I read the comment left by another reviewer named Larry and its obviously "sourer gapes" on his part. He was a student there in the kickboxing program and quit because he wouldn't follow the schools dress code. You would never know he was a member because he dressed like he just rolled in off the street. His picture is still on the wall in the school as a before and after picture because he lost 50 lbs doing their program. I guess he's just venting. If you really want to find out about this school you should just give them a call and come in to try a free class. You'll be glad you did.
