::Growing up in a city like San Diego most cities zoos have to do a lot to impress me. Well, the San Antonio zoo did just that. On my first visit I was curious how the park would deliver that sense of being in your own cocoon or world being where it's located. But once you get through the entry gates you're immediately drawn into a world all it's own. The last time I was at the zoo it was a late night dinner with the animals type of event. It was fantastic! there were limited tickets sold so the zoo was not overcrowded. They had specialty menus at their concessions and there were fun arts and crafts events for adults and kids alike. All in all it was a great time that subverted all of my Southern California expectations.

::As you walk in there is security looking at bags. It's a good thing since we have all these issues with gun control. I give you a map of the whole entire grounds. I recommend spending all day to see everything. Bottled water is highly recommended. If you are wanting to feed the giraffes I recommend getting in line first and purchasing tickets.

::It was nice to go. To me this zoo is more bird friendly. But they did have some pretty birds and some I do not think I've seen before. To me the zoo has a lot of closed off areas meaning it was not a completely open feel, a lot of the exhibits dead end and did not flow. Just have one issue was when we did the pictures with the giraffes, the young lady that was checking us out did not pay attention to the pictures she printed out so she printed one picture twice and now i am missing a picture and have no way of getting it.

::We loved going to the zoo on family time. Our daughter loves it! She was so excited. She didn't know where to go and what to do first. Lol. They a progressing on their exhibits, which is a good thing. My daughter loved the giraffes so much we just had to buy her a stuffed one. I recommend you take your kids here. The price is inexpensive and next to the zoo you can take them to ride the train. Just be prepared to walk and put on your walking shoes.

::The kids always love going to the zoo, any zoo, but this zoo feels like it needs some TLC. We love the refillable plastic cups and there are many beautiful animals to see. I can only compare this zoo to the two others where we've been members, Atlanta and Cleveland. Atlanta has comparable acreage, but it feels like they do more with the space. The Atlanta zoo has a children's section with a spray park, play ground, rope course, rock-climbing wall, train, petting zoo, and carousel. There is just so much more to do than just see animals. We support animal conservation efforts and have purchased a membership in San Antonio, too, so of course we'll return, but I can't rave about it.
