  Food generally good but last night my Yellowfin Tuna was too salty and cold. Duck was good. Service, eh!

  La Coquille is the best and perhaps last of Nassau County's "Fine Dining" restaurants. It is actually NOT a French restaurant, in the traditional sense,which is a good thing. Rather, La Coquille is a very fine, "Continental" restaurant. Sort of a survey course of European Culinary Traditions, mostly French and Italian, tweaked to American tastes. They've been doing it for close to 50 years and Nobody, does it better. Their Ceasar Salad is pitch perfect, their Oysters, baked Rockefeller style are as good as in New Orleans, their veal dishes, especially the Veal Chop Milanese style or the Veal Chatelaine, with chestnuts in a sherry sauce are some of the best dishes you will ever eat. Their seafood, Branzino etc is clearly well sourced. The service is professional "Old School" with tuxedoed staff and dishes finished table side by a Captain, who has been there 40 years. To top it all off, they bring you a dessert cart filled with the Classics like Floating Island, Napoleon, amazing Creme Brulee, etc. When was the last time you saw one of those?! The prices are not cheap but compared to NYC, where I'm from, are an absolute bargain given the quality, and service. Bonus: the wine list offers extremely well priced bottle options and top notch reds and whites at $10-12/glass! If you are a "Lawn Guyland" mook in a Jets jersey who does not own a sport coat, a loud pretentious "real Housewife of Long Island" type or someone more accustomed to $8 Groupon buffets in Flushing, perhaps this is not your place. If however you are seeking the last of the old school Gold Coast Fine Dining Establishments, get dressed up, head to Munsey Park and check out La Coquille.

  I enjoy La Coquille because the ambiance/dining room is elegant, comfortable and quiet, the service is excellent, and the menu is extensive, varied and always delicious...bartender also excellent. We have been going there at least 20 years.
