Across the Hudson river from The United States Military Academy at West Point New York , this is the island where the chain across the Hudson was laid out to stop the British boats from advancing up the river

  Painted by Victor DeGrailly (1804-1889) This is a very pleasing view across the River to the foundry that grew and prospered with the Military Academy. It is also a gorgeous rendering of the atmosphere around the northernmost of the Appalachian peaks as they pass through the Hudson Valley.

  If you have the time, take the ferry ride over to the Island. It's a great little piece of West Point history that often gets overlooked.
