  去过很多国家的大使馆，大部分国家的签证官都是一个人一个人地处理（单核），今天去中国驻休士顿大使馆，柜台很灵活，在等待收款机的时间就直接让下一位上来交文件了，多核多线程赞一个。唯一不足就是停车。

  亲身体验。休斯顿总领馆签证中心办事确实比较认真负责。服务态度也非常好。就我个人观察，有很多问题造成当事人的要求不能及时处理，其实是申请人没有做好充分准备，或者不熟悉领事流程造成的。前者譬如申请人没有按要求带必须的文件，其实如果按照领事馆网上的要求准备，绝大多数都不会有问题，缺的文件领事馆员工也会耐心给出提示如何办理。后者譬如换发护照需要转去华盛顿大使馆办理，需要比较长的时间，无法加急办理。这让一些紧急需要护照的人有意见。但这不是休斯顿总领馆的问题。签证中心办公流量是很大的。总体感觉员工办事很有效率，服务态度也很好，也能体谅申请人的需要。还要多说一句。门口的西裔安保比较友好。就是对自己本职工作不太负责。安保检查形同虚设。当然也可能是去签证中心办事的都是守法公民，或者也是因为流量太大的原因。想尽可能给大家方便吧。

  办宝宝旅行证，多交20块可以隔天取。办中国签证如果选L签旅游，必须交机票和酒店的预订单，由于没有订酒店，改成短期探望中国人签证种类，需要提交邀请信，且不能是表格模板，要是信件形式。中国签证不能加急，网上没有注明，但目前不能加急，除非medical的原因。附近有一个kroger，可以很便宜地弄money order。我们去的时候，领事馆的机器坏了，不能刷信用卡，提前准备money order更保险。

  我觉得中国驻休斯敦领事馆这两年的服务有很大的提高，我亲眼见证过他们现场办公的情况，办公人员耐心，热情，专业!有时候可能政策会有不明晰而导致一些误解和不便，但事后他们的负责人会专门打电话回访解释。中国领事馆是中国人在海外的家，是中国展示给外国朋友的面孔，很高兴看见中国领事馆百尺竿头，更上层楼！

  There is a lot of incorrect advice listed here. Get to the building earlier than they open and line up. You will be let into the building when they open so your place in line determines how soon you will get to the window. I arrived at 12:30 PM and one person was already waiting at the door. By the time they opened the door at 1:30 PM there must have been at least 50 people in line. The security guard will briefly screen the applications to see of there are any obvious rejects. The forms MUST be printed by a computer/typewriter. NO handwritten forms!!! Once inside the applications will be screened at window 5 ( tourist Visa applications) Print out the application form on single sided copies (no double sided copies). I cut my photos to exactly the size listed on the web site. No problem with the 4 applications that I submitted. Maybe they may accept the 2" X 2" but it is easy to cut to the size they specify. Google the metric size and get a conversion to inches. Very easy to do. Submit copies of hotel and airline confirmations or reservations. If submitting multiple applications for a family only one copy is needed. But they will verify that each of the family members are included in the hotel and airline reservation. Each name must be included. They DO NOT require copies of your drivers license. I read a reviewer that said the driver license copy was required so I brought copies. All were reteuned to me by the Visa specialist. I brought the notarized authorizations from the parents for minor children to get a Visa as well as a copy of the birth certificate. Those documents were kept so they were obviously required. A copy of the information page of each passport is also required and of course the passport itself is required. Once accepted you will be given a receipt and told to come back to pick up the passports (the date is also on the receipt). Parking across the street is $5 cash or $6 credit card. The attendant may not be on duty if you arrive an hour before the Consulate opens but when you leave one will be there and collect a parking fee. In the instances that I saw people rejected I didn't observe the Visa Specialist to be rude. They simply informed the applicant what was required.
