    I walked in at 530pm to open an account and the lady there told me it was too late to come back another day like maybe Saturday. I don’t think that that’s the proper way to handle a customer coming in to open a new account I will go somewhere else. Like TD bank or Bank of America

    If I could give this location zero stars, I would. This review is only for this Chase Bank location (Newkirk Plaza). I went to this location on Sunday to inquire about the Chase Liquid card. Was greeted by a nice gentleman who explained that I needed to sign in prior to being helped. Signed in, waited about 10 minutes and then I was greeted by Emma Jean Pierre, Relationship Banker. Emma brings me to her cubicle and asks how may I help. I stated that I was there to learn more about the Chase Liquid card, which is a prepaid card. She provided additional information on the card and fees. I decided to move forward, this is where the craziness begins. I was questioned (more like interrogated) as to why I wanted this card, what I wanted to use it for, why would I want a prepaid card which incurs monthly fees when "you can just use your other bank accounts" (I stated that I have accounts with TD & Bank of America), the name of my employer and their industry, what my job duties are. I mean I've NEVER experienced anything like this with any other bank when attempting to open an account. I've been asked basic questions about employment, such as name of employer and annual salary range but NOTHING like this. Then once I've answered all the questions, while mentioning that I feel like I'm being interrogated, Emma states to me "well my branch manager has the right to approve or deny your request so I need to get all of your answers now so I can relay them to her and she can make the choice". "We don't want you opening up a card and then returning to cancel in a month due to fees, which reflects negatively on us". I asked, if I choose to cancel, does this somehow effect your branch numbers. She explained that it does not however we always have the customer's best interest in mind. Yeah, sure. She takes my driver's license and my TD debit card and leaves the cubicle to connect with her branch manager for a second time. They both return about five minutes later, both standing as I'm sitting. The branch manager, Shondell Browning, proceeds to tell me "I understand you want to open a prepaid card account with us however I'm aware that you're also banking elsewhere and due to the fact that you stated you're not great with managing your finances, I'm going to deny your request to open up a prepaid card account with us. Now, you may be able to go to another branch and get approved but I'm going to deny you." I said ok because at this point, I was completely baffled and felt like I was treated as a criminal. Both Emma and Shondell smirked at me as I stood up to leave. I politely asked Emma for her business card, who stated "it was wonderful speaking to you today" with a smirk on her face. One, I've banked with a number of financial institutions and have NEVER experienced anything like this. EVER. I was attempting to obtain a prepaid card, I wasn't attempting to cash a check for an insanely large amount. I was treated as if I were a criminal and I hate to think that this was based somehow on my appearance, but that was my conclusion. Meanwhile, I visited another branch in Sheepshead Bay and was serviced by their branch manager, Tamara who helped me with absolutely no issue (or interrogation) and I walked out of that branch with the card. I told Tamara about my experience with this branch and she stated that that was completely unacceptable and that is NOT the process when even opening up a checking account, let alone a prepaid card account. She apologized on their behalf and stated that I should file a formal complaint, which I did earlier this AM. Ladies, please work on your customer service. Your rudeness is completely unacceptable.
