  It totally boggles my mind to find such a historical, African American cemetery in such disrepair. There is really nowhere to park but on the small driveway right in front of the iron gates. We didn't find any headstones older than the 60's and there were plenty from the late 1800's. There has been much vandalism on site and I guess no one really cares. Many, many of the headstones were broken, tipped over or cracked. If I had ancestors buried in that sad place, I would gather community volunteers and create a call to action. When we started exploring, I started walking up the dirt road, right in the middle of the cemetery. It has a slight hill but I couldn't resist walking all the way in to see what was on the other side of the hill, away from the view of the street.
