::This is an awesome collection of memorials, big and small. There are some that you'd be surprised by, and some that will have you linger for a while and think about many of the events and people who helped shape our country and our state. The free parking is nice so you can start near and spend time reflecting on our past.

::Wesley Bolin Memorial and the nearby Arizona Museum should not be missed. Whether you are a resident of Arizona or one of our many visitors. Wesley Bolin Memorial plaza pays tribute to all who have helped Arizona become the Great state that she is. From the early settlers, to religious figures who once brought spiritual aid and comfort to Many through their travels around the state, to our veterans who proudly served and paid the ultimate cost in combat. Even to our law enforcement officers, their K9 companions and working partners, to firemen who lost their lives trying to save others. Even the American Indian Code Talkers who helped turn the tide of war during WWI and WWII. To the good men who lost their lives aboard the USS Arizona sunk at Pearl Harbour at the onset ofWWII. A great place to visit, to learn and relax.

::The State of Arizona has done a remarkable job with all of their memorials to the people who settled the state, to those who served in the military, to those who lost their lives in law enforcement and first responders. Their WWII memorial is especially touching. They have guns from the USS Arizona (the flag ship at the beginning of WWII), to the USS Missouri (the flag ship at the end of the war). Between them are the names of all service men & women who gave the ultimate sacrifice during the war. The names are engraved on stainless steel plaques and are hung so that they wave in the wind. It gives the appearance of waves on the ocean. It is very well done. Being a Vietnam veteran, I especially like what they did to honor my brothers and sisters who gave everything they had over there. The reflecting pool at the USS Arizona anchor needs some work. But, other than that, I highly commend the state for what they've done!

::Beautiful grounds. Ample parking (when the Legislature is not in session). Very sunny, limited shade. Wide walking paths. Wheelchair friendly. Memorials of significant Arizona leaders as well as local heros and first responders. Must see the WWII - Pearl Harbor display which includes guns from the deck of the USS Arizona and USS Missouri. Pleasant walk to the State Capital, which has additional memorials on the lawn. There is a free museum inside, with a large display of artifacts recovered from the sunken USS Arizona.

::I wish I had known about this memorial downtown, I was very impressed with the memorial to fallen firefighters. As you go down the sidewalk toward the capitol there are columns with facts about Arizona, so definitely worth taking a stroll. I attended the Women's March and thought the grounds were well kept and the area was very well secured. Most of downtown has been cleaned up a great deal and modernized. Definitely still some areas to avoid after dark as there are with any major cities.
