  My daughter attended 1 year at the marshall and stayed 3 years at Up academy. A mixture of the early start time, boys and girls club after school program being cancelled, and the strict demerit and uniform system, caused her to develop depression. Every morning she would scream, cry and try to physically fight with me because she did not want to go to school. I met with the school counselor and we concluded that she may have felt uncomfortable with her new teacher because she yelled alot and the counselor futher explained that thats pretty much the teachers style. One morning while walking my daughter to school a student in a higher grade joined us and said "she feels like she's getting ready to walk into a prison" they're gonna make me take my shoes off as soon as I go through the door. I asked my daughter if she has to do that as well, she said not yet. At that moment I realized how stressful this school is and felt horrible that she or any kid had to experiance this. Charater schools uniform policies are stupid. Teachers should follow the policy themselves if the reason is to prepare kids for the "professional work environment". Long story short, my daughter is in an innovative school, with hours that allow her to get healthy sleep, and a after and before school program. There is a uniform policy but it has different color options and they won't make you change if you dont have them, they stick to the curriculum and teach rather than waste time on checking socks. My daughters experiance at Up academy has made me appreciate traditional schools so much more. All this Charter School crap is about tests and teaching experiments created by big wigs to make more money. Vote no on question 2.

  MY DAUGHTER GOES TO THIS SCHOOL AND MUST I SAY I LIKE THE SCHOOL BETTER WHEN IT WAS JUST THE HOLLAND NOW THAT ITS UAH THEY NEED TO CUT BACK ON ALOT OF THEIR EXPECTATIONS FOR THEIR YOUNGER STUDENTS. IM TIRED OF SEEING A COMPLAINT FOR EVERY LITTLE THING THAT A CHILD DOES ALL BECAUSE THEY CANT GET THE KIDS UNDER CONTROL.HALF OF THE TEACHER THAT ARE HERE IN THIS SCHOOL ARE FRESH OUT OF COLLEGE JUST GETTING THEIR DEGREE TOBECOME A TEACHER BUT YET NOT ONE OF THOSE TEACHERS ACTUALLY HAVE KIDS OF THEIR OWN NOR HAVE THE REAL EXPREINCE OF WORKING WITH THESE KIDS.. BEFORE THEY JUMP STRAIGHT INTO BEING A TEACHER THEY SHOULD HAVE BECAME A TEACHERS ASSISTANT SO THEY CAN GET THE FEEL OF HOW THEY SHOULD GO ABOUT AND HANDLE CERTAIN SITUATIONS INVOLVING THESE KIDS. THE SCHOOL IS A GOOD PLACE FOR KIDS BUT NOT IF THEY WANT TO HAVE THESE KIDS THERE FEELING LIKE THEIR AT A BOARDING SCHOOL. MY DAUGHTER WILL NO LONGER BE ATTENDING THIS SCHOOL AFTER THIS YEAR UNLESS THEIR ARE CHANGES MADE... THERE WAS OVER 33 SUSPENSIONS WITHIN ONE MONTH IN THIS SCHOOL. AND MAJORITY OF THE KIDS BEING SUSPENDED ARE EITHER BLACK OR HISPANIC CHILDREN... THEY TREAT TGHEM AS IF THEY DONT KNOW HOW TO BEHAVE WHEN THESE CHILDREN ARE JUST BEING KIDS. I KNOW IM NOT THE ONLY PARENT THAT KNOWS OF THESE THINGS THAT ARE GOING ON AND NO THE ONLY ONE WHO DISAGREE WITH ALOT THAT IS GOING ON... I WILL START A PARTITION IF THEY DO NOT GET IT TOGETHER... AS OF RIGHT NOW MY OPINION IS THAT THE SCHOOL SUCK AND GOT ALOT TO DO BEFORE I SEND MY DAUGHTER BACK HERE FOR ANOTHER YEAR
