The National Arboretum is one of my most favorite places to go. Most people don’t even know what an arboretum is its a park / gardens of trees. I’ve visited here in the fall and spring most of the time during my stay in Maryland for business. I live in Florida where everything is lush all the time and you see nature’s burst of colors is absolutely amazing from Winter to Spring. There are so many different flowering trees here from white to pinks to red purple it is truly a beautiful place for the soul. There’s also a wonderful bonsai exhibit where some of the trees are hundreds of years old it is truly a gem of DC.

The National Arboretum is but another gem in the collection of free places to visit in the DC area that includes the Smithsonian museum collection and National Zoo. The Arboretum is worth visiting at any time of year, but especially so in the Spring when the dogwood, azalea, and cherry blossoms, and lilacs are in bloom (albeit not all at the same time!). The Asian garden area is also magical, and the bonsai collection is truly impressive. Even if an admission fee was changed, it would be well worth a visit for tourists and locals alike.

This is a must see if you like nature. The national arboretum is a sprawling park that holds many flowering plants and trees. Every season brings new beauty and surprises. My most recent visit had flowering trees as the prominent feature. The azaleas had not quite bloomed yet. The bonsai museum is always worth a visit, but keep in mind it closes earlier than the arboretum. The staff there is also very friendly and knows a lot about the bonsai and penjing

Great place to visit! The gardens are beautiful, they have a great collection of cherry blossoms (without the crowds of lack of parking), and the bonsai collection is amazing. Plus, you can visit the eagles! Closes weirdly early, though, so plan your visit accordingly. The R St entrance is the closest to most of the cool stuff.

Beautiful place. Some areas not as cared for as they used to be; the grass needed cutting, dead shrubs, etc. needed removal. It was Summer when it should be the most beautiful. We went there after Mom's funeral. Such a beautiful peaceful place. Perfect for a sad day. Taking pics of the family we were told that we could not if we didn't have a permit. Under the circumstances of the day we did not linger. I wonder if the caucasian family we saw was told the same.
