We went to see the corpse flowers, not knowing that they only bloom once every few years, and it happens randomly. So, if you're going for the flowers, it's all luck... BUT, it's still a great place to visit. There are lots of flowers and you can go to the second floor of the main garden and get a nice aerial view. We were going to spend half an hour, but ended up spending just above an hour there.

I don't know what I'm missing - the ability to appreciate individual plants maybe? I was pretty excited to take my sister-in-law here while she was visiting, but we all found it just OK. We specifically drove here just to check it out, and while it has a lot of areas and plants and is nice, it's essentially just like walking through a garden. It doesn't have the grandeur and beauty of some of the other buildings, and unfortunately we went in March so outside didn't really have much going on. Worth going to if you LOVE plants and are fascinated by all the different climates, but if not then it's only worth a visit while you're walking around other places on the mall. Taken together it's a nice compliment to other museums.

An amazing visit! I had some time to spare before getting on the train so I stopped in here. Like many places in DC, it is free to enter Inside the conservatory you can see a huge variety of amazing plants from all over the world, kept safe in their own climated rooms. There is even a room for Evening Orchids kept in twilight to show off their amazing bloom

This place is fantastic! If you're into plants at all or just enjoy natural beauty, make this one of your stops while in Washington DC. We went during the Orchid Festival and it was filled with color. The displays were informative and unique. I would strongly suggest this for families with younger children that would be inquisitive as to the different types of plants and so on. When we go back to DC in the future, I'm going to spend more time here.

The US Botanic Gardens was wonderful. They have several different zones in the green houses, and open air parks outside. It's also free, so it's a great place to take kids. They even have a Kids Garden area. The center section has huge palm trees, and a catwalk you can walk on to get a birds eye view. It's really great. They have a Mediterranean climate Garden... With herbs and plants (like olive trees), that help shape the culture of the area. There is a Hawaiian zone, with incredibly dense foliage, and even a zone with medicinal plants, like cinnamon and foxglove. There are a surprising number of food-producing plans, like coconuts, olive trees, papaya, and bananas trees! They also had a scavenger hunt for kids... That my kids didn't see until after they were done for the day. The outdoor Rose garden wasn't in bloom... But it looks impressive already. The building doesn't have a place to eat, or buy food, but Bartholdi Park is right across the street, and has tables and chairs for a picnic. A wonderful trip, and I will totally be going back.
