::This is a very special martial arts school. It takes student development seriously and values community and mutual support. Mr. Donovan and his talented instructors have created a safe and friendly environment that's also inspiring and hard-working. I give this establishment my highest recommendation. It's a shame that google won't allow me to give it more than five stars!

::Mr. Donovan has created a special school where all are welcome. Myself, my spouse and our son's are all students and it has been a great bonding experience for our family to learn karate together. It's not just exercise, it's a way of life.

::This place is fantastic. I went to trial classes all over NYC and this school has the best breadth of knowledge and best attitude. It also doesn't feel like they just want your money. Great martial arts and great community!

::If you’re looking for self-defense, exercise, stress reduction, an activity for the kids, or you just think martial arts are cool, Traditional Okinawan Karate of Brooklyn is the place to be. The head instructor, Mr. Donovan, is everything you’d want a karate teacher to be. He combines impressive skill and knowledge of the Martial Arts with amazing teaching ability, admirable integrity, and a knack for building positive, meaningful relationship with the kids and adults who study with him. The result is a schedule of classes that manages to be both challenging and fun in a truly rare, community-rich setting. The traditional karate style is rounded out with ground-fighting techniques, self-defense, and weapons defense. As a black belt myself with more than 15 years of martial arts experience I can affirm that both Mr. Donovan and his staff are well-equipped to help you advance, whether you’re a brand new beginner, or you have years of study under your belt. Do yourself a favor and take advantage of the two-week free trial to check it out. The dojo is small, sincere, and genuine, and the folks you’ll meet are there because being a part of it makes their life better. IMHO, you won’t find a better place to train in NYC.
