::My 9 year old daughter has been in the school of Rock for about 2+ years. She had been taking 1-on-1 classes elsewhere. She had learned to play a couple basic songs. When I read about School of Rock I decided to give it a try. I was skeptical at first. Instead of learning to play songs as she had been doing before, she was practicing chords, and parts of songs, scales and so on. Then she performed at Nyack Farmers Market. She played guitar one song, bass one song, and sang one song. For me it was like being back stage for a U2 concert. Nothing can describe seeing your kid perform in a band. That was after less than a year with School of Rock. A year later, I get it. Now she is truly a musician. Not someone who can play a song or two, but a musician. One of those mysterious people who just understands music. She is rehearsing for a concert at the Pearl River Brew House. More complicated parts, more singing. Yes I am excited about that, and my wife and I are amazed at the sounds she can coax out of her guitar. But a few days ago I bought my 4 year old son a drum set. This is something my wife and I wouldn't have considered before SOC. We don't have a great place to put a drum set, and he is only 4. But now it is a different equation. I bought a guitar for Taylor when she was 5 and LOOK AT HER NOW. So, after Nathan bangs on his drums, Taylor sat down. She has never touched a drumstick. She starts playing recognizable beats. Just from observing the drummers at SOC - and from the understanding of music that has evidently become ingrained in her. There are the other ineffable benefits as well, such as confidence and work ethic - I no longer have to force her to practice, because as a part of a band, she WANTS to be good. And she has finally grasped the concept that she actually can get good at anything she sets her mind to, as long as she works hard at it. Yep, worth every penny. As a final note, from what I have seen, Shuman and his staff are amazing with the kids.

::What a great experience! I participated in the adult summer program and learned great hits like Radar Love by Golden Earring, Born to Be Wild by Steppenwolf, One Big Holiday by My Morning Jacket. The instructors were all true pros. Their emphasis on having fun and connecting with the music led to an accelerated learning experience. ... And performing for a live audience is a great life experience.

::I did the SOR adult program and it was a great success. The instructors are all great musicians and really know how to strike a balance between teaching students song structure and being loose and having fun. Getting up on stage and performing was truly a memorable experience.

::Overall an outstanding show. The only suggestion I have for next time is to have a set-list for parents, that includes which kids are playing which songs, so we know when our kids will be on stage. That way we can make room for other parents when our kids are not performing. Otherwise a really great afternoon! Thank you.
