::May -2018 In response to Katherine - you shouldn’t be surprised. You were absolutely terrible to me and other students and to be very specific I was in your 2015 fall class series. let my feelings settle and resolve before I posted. After a long time I decided people need to know how badly you treat some of your students. We cannot win them all. The only thing I learned from you was to not invest money all at once at a class- other students were smarter and paid per class and left when you were mean. You had us call and leave we miss you messages too (totally ridiculous). You ran you class like a social hour and had absolutely no patience with my hearing problem. And made me feel horrible and embarrassed me and some of others every chance you could. It was my reality in your class –I was forced out by it and ultimately left and forfeited my money because of your inconsistency and rudeness. I am not angry with you (not anymore); I’ve made my peace with the experience. This is my right to inform others who might be subject to your cruelty as I experienced it. This is a regular consumer practice- there is no other way for consumers to be made aware. Blessed Be. April-2018 Take heed! The most unprofessional and unpleasant art teacher I’ve ever encountered. Please take this as a warning; she is facetious. Do yourself a favor pay her one class at a time and at the time of Class so when she shows her true colors you can bounce. And not lose money like I did. She’s a mean teacher with no patience for people with disabilities. 1* would be too much in all truthfulness hope everyone sees this post!

::Katherine is the heart and soul of this School, where so many people come together with a mutual love of learning and painting. Most importantly, Katherine teaches with kindness and patience for each student. I highly recommend the School of Painting, it's definitely one of Somerville's hidden artistic gems.

::I really enjoy my experience in this class! The instructor has extensive experience which she shares with her students. Katherine will take the time to sit at your canvas with you one on one. She gives class wide advice/instruction as well as individual. The setting is eclectic and stimulating, as is the social dynamic. Alternatively, if you had a long day and just need to unwind, you can simply enjoy the soft music and focus deeply on the paint before you. Highly recommend.

::10 years ago we brought my 6-year-old daughter here to take painting classes. She was loving them, and one day Katherine told us that in the summer parents could take the class along with their children. We took this opportunity for a nice family activity, and surprise! I was hooked myself! I have been painting there as an adult for nearly 10 years now, and I just love the community, and the way that beginners are encouraged to blossom into amazing artists. The talent I have seen in the artists (from ages 5 to 92) blows my mind, and so many of the artists, like me, had no idea that they could paint great art! The Katherine Martin Widmer School of Painting has been an important part of my life ever since I discovered it, and I hope that my life allows me to keep it that way!

::I spent months searching for a painting class, and I gave up for long periods a number of times. Finally, one day, I found what I was looking for; The Katherine Martin Widmer School of Painting. Obviously the price is unbeatable, not to mention all materials being included in the cost; but after experiencing this class for one and a half terms at this point, I can honestly say that I would pay twice what she charges, at least. There are many great things that can be said about this class. First, being able to paint whatever I want, and not limited to some still-life that everyone else is also painting, makes the class so much more rewarding. Then there is the environment, a cozy studio full of wonderful artistic people, all amazingly friendly and helpful. Finally, I have to talk about the teacher. Katherine is simply a wonderful, interesting, and caring woman who has been teaching students like myself for over 30 years. It is clear that she adores her students and thinks of them like family, and I think most of them feel the same way about her. The only caveat I should mention, which has been mentioned by others, is that it can be a little frustrating waiting your turn when you need help. Since everyone is doing their own thing, and everyone needs separate instruction on the techniques for their own chosen subject, Katherine is kept very busy in the class. This is perfectly understandable, and necessary for the type of class it is, and I think it just requires a little calm patience. I plan to keep signing up every new term for the foreseeable future. I look forward to the next class from the moment the last class ends. (Note: This is my review from Yelp, originally written on 2/25/2010. I remain a student at the school, and have no plans to retire from it.)
