::Odds are you’ve seen a “Swizzle” cocktail at your favorite tropical bar over the years. Traditionally a rum-based drink with a similar composition to a punch, the Swizzle originated in the late 17th century when ice was introduced to the Caribbean. The cocktail is created by swiftly stirring a drink with crushed ice for several minutes to create a frothy, icy cocktail. The drink was also the inspiration for the newest bar concept at Washington Park Hotel, which sports the same name. Spearheaded by Danilo “Dacha” Bozovic, author of Barkeep; head bartender and partner in the upcoming Employees Only Miami set to open this December, it features unique cocktails in a leisurely setting and we got a first taste. Signature cocktail include a variety of different swizzle cocktails with some of our favorites including the Cachaça Swizzle with Leblon Cachaça swizzled with Raspberry Puree, Montenegro Liqueur, Fresh Lime Juice and Angostura Bitters; President Swizzle with Montelobos Mezcal swizzled with1738 Remy Martin Cognac, Pineapple Juice, Rhubarb Syrup and Lime Juice; Hollywood Swizzle with St. Germain Liqueur, Banks Rum, Velvet Falernum Liqueur, Lemon Juice and Peychaud’s Bitters; and the South Beach Swizzle with Barsol Pisco swizzled with Young Coconut Puree, Lime Juice, White Crème de Cacao & Old Fashioned Bitters. Employees Only favorites also made the menu including Lucy Lu with Vida Mezcal, Maraschino Liqueur, Lime Juice & Grapefruit Juice, finished with Angostura Bitters and the Rum Old Fashioned w/ Smith and Cross Rum stirred with muddled Brandied Cherries & Orange, Demerara Syrup & Angostura, Peychaud’s, Orange Bitters. But it’s not just drinks on the Swizzle menu, there are also plenty of bites to soak all that booze up with. Our highlights included the Baby Kale Caesar; Avocado and Crab Toast with Dill; Chicken Kefta Kebab with Tahini Yogurt and Herb Salad; Smokey Plantain Chips with Lime Crema; Yellowfin Tuna Burger and the juicy Washington Park Burger topped with muenster cheese and pickled onions.
