  Wow! The memories. I lived here from 1987 to 1989!! Way back then we received all of our incoming calls from the front desk switchboard. A buzzer sounded in your room and they announced the call through a speaker. I used a calling card to make outside calls on the pay phone. The price was very reasonable as I recall and the location was ideal. Loved NYC back in the 80s...

  PROS: 1. Very, very conveniently located (Subway is literally 45 seconds walk away. Yes, I timed it. No, I didn't run) 2. Clean 3. Very safe 4. Staff & residents courteous & friendly CONS: 1. Cost. They've raised the rent. Might as well pay a couple more hundred per month for your own studio apartment. The cost is great for short term, but not so economical for long term. 2. Get ready to be woken up by the loud intercom/Speaker systems they use to communicate with people who work in the building. "JANE DOE PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE. JANE DO PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE." This can start anywhere from 9 in the morning & goes on throughout the day til about 6pm. Daily. First time I heard it, I was jarred out of my sleep after pulling an all night study session. Strangely, you do learn to live with it, though. 3. Sometimes, you may or may not get your food stolen from the kitchen. Yes, people steal and "borrow" food. 4. Inconsiderate residents (no fault of St. Marys but a factor nonetheless): Inconsiderate residents and floor mates who sometimes don't flush properly, and sometimes refuse to clean up after themselves in the kitchen.

  Excellent place for the money they charge. I stayed there for 4 weeks and it was a great experience. Made some pretty cool friends in sucgh a short while. Girls are nice and friendly and most are staying here for an avg of 4 yrs or so. They take care of cleanliness and follow rules like its their home. The restrooms and baths are plenty and clean. The kitchen is good and well equipped. The staff is really helpful and friendly. Payments for short stays are made either in cash or bankers cheque, cannot do online transfers. This can be an issue for international travellers who donot have a local bank account yet. I would love to stay herer again
