Smith–Ninth Streets is a local station on the IND Culver Line of the New York City Subway. It is located over the Gowanus Canal between Smith and Ninth Streets in Gowanus, Brooklyn and is served by the F and G trains at all times. The station is 87.5 feet (26.7 m) above ground level, making it the highest subway station in the world. This elevated station, opened on October 7, 1933, has four tracks and two side platforms. In 2009, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority began an extensive renovation of the station. It was closed entirely for a full reconstruction between June 2011 and April 2013.

This station has an amazing view of Manhattan. Especially at the sunset. But it needs some repairs. Especially when it is raining. Other than that it's a nice station.

The stands high from the ground level and has great views from the platform. Do stop and breath in the vibe of RedHook when ever you pass by

Technicians and engineers from the world over have come to try their hand at cracking the mystery that are the Escalators of Smith St Station. Year round, daily commuters are invited to observe, and take part of, the poetic irony of being presented a way to climb the Great Ascent to the platform above, without the function. The spectacle of seeing team after team attempt to solve this mystery, is an entertainment of the rarest variety you'll not want to miss. But don't worry, this is anything but a limited time occurrence, so feel free to plan months, maybe even years in advance for your chance to see the greatest challenge to mankind.
