  Shelter Island is not just restaurants & hotels for tourists, but a great place to take a walk along the bay, catch some fish from the public pier, check out the osprey with a pole nest near the Japanese Peace Bell or enjoy a picnic. From the shore you have sweeping views of the harbor and yacht clubs that ring one side of Shelter Is. It's also great fun to see Shelter Is. from the water. On the Day of the Docks in the Spring sponsored by the Port Authority you can take a $3.00 ride out into the bay for 30 - 40 minutes on one of the charter fishing boats and get a different view of this busy island with a laid back vibe

  Walk here with walk about international on occasion and have brought friends here to enjoy the harbor.

  I walk here every evening with my pup...safe, well lit at night, and is very peaceful and quiet, it's 2 miles from end to end, a great walk !! My happy place !

  We stay on Shelter Island twice-yearly and we really like it here. Very laid-back and quite safe.
