::Not long ago, this firm delivered stellar services. Unfortunately, a few years ago and coinciding with some staff turnover, things went south. The company we'd relied on for well over a decade for professional tax council and preparation seemed to be no more. Important, tax-related calls and emails increasingly went unanswered or ignored up to and beyond deadlines - and making contact at all with the preparor finally required (repeatedly) reporting the issue to ownership. This - and the resulting, unclarified tax return issues - are scarcely acceptible for low-dollar, chain-location, tax preparation. For a full-service firm, such practices are not only unacceptible, they are at best needless nuisances and, at worst, potentially costly from a tax standpoint. Companies certainly do err, and in my book should have a reasonable chance to rectify customer complaints. So, perhaps most frustrating was the firm's minimal after-the-fact efforts to address problems and, in what seemed a risk-avoidance tactic, by declining to further recommend whether refiling -- or not refiling -- was either prudent or wise even though substantial sums were at stake. While I've recommended Schmuck Tees & Company to others for years, at this juncture -- and unless or until they righten the ship -- I'd be doing a disservice to do anything but regretfully advise steering clear.
