::My family and I were driving from Maryland to Montreal on the first leg of our trip, leaving on a Sunday we needed to find a place for Mass on the trip. Newburgh was four hours from home and seemed like the perfect stop. We originally planned to go to one of the other Catholic Churches in town but as we approached did a Google search and saw the Mass time here was perfect. When we approached through a mostly abandoned main street and saw the small lot of this circular church, we weren't expecting much. Afterall, our parish is circular and leaves a lot to be desired as far as beauty goes. Especially when going to see the beautiful churches of Quebec. But when we walked in we were taken aback. Clearly, this parish was recently remodeled. But, what caught our attention and what we loved as the triangular stained glass windows at the top of the church each had different saints on them. During the Mass, you are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses, not only are the saints praying with you, you see them as in heaven above you! It's truly a great idea! Surrounded by saints from heaven! The church also has two small side altars with St. Padre Pio and Divine Mercy. And a beautiful mosaic behind the altar. After having never been a fan of round churches (and I still prefer traditional), this parish did it right! They took the good aspects of the round building and made it great! Truly lifting your spirit to heaven! On top of that, they had four page activity sheets for the kids based on the readings. It not only kept my kids occupied in the car for the next hour, it also kept them learning about the Gospel. Yes, just little coloring pages and word searches and puzzles, but the stuff kids like to do while they pick up a little on the way. Certainly helps me as a parent Evangelize my kids. I wish my parish did this! The Mass was also beautiful and reverent, it appeared to be an associate pastor's last Mass. Based on his great homily, I'm sure he'll be missed. Speaking only from one Mass, if I lived in Newburgh, this would be my parish home! And my next trip to Montreal, if on a Sunday, we will be stopping here for Mass again. And if my parish does a remodel, I'll recommend they take a trip to see how it should be done!
