::I've been to this place a few days ago. It was NOTHING like reviewers that gave bad grades said. Security was nice (two police officers even made a joke with me), people that are working upstairs are VERY VERY VERY kind. Everything was done in a minute, WITH A SMILE and a small help, because I didn't fill in everything I needed. So, people who gave bad reviews basically did it because it was busy and the line was long. So, instead of giving Social Security Center bad grades for something they are not guilty of, please try to be there when it's not busy (you have it on google busy hours).

::30 degrees out and you have to stand on a line for 2 hrs that goes down the block!?my mom is 85 years old, thats inhumane. And then go through a metal detector? In a Social Security office? What kind of people go here? Contacted SS and they told me we could go to any office in NY state so I used those same 2 hrs and took her for a nice ride up to the country and found an office in Sullivan Co. and guess What? We were out in less than 30 minutes. No lines, No metal detectors, no rude employees, real polite and helpful security gaurds. The office was clean and modern. no degenerates and a nice atmosphere . It was 20 degrees out and we were able to SIT INSIDE a nice warm building.

The Social Security Workers do there best in making our visit efficient as possible. The Drama starts when We don't understand System and Its benefits

::Easy to get to this office by train or bus. I don't suggest driving but if you do drive there is a parking lot on Parsons Blvd up the block from Jamaica Avenue pass the McDonald's. When you enter you will have to go through a check point similar to the airport. Once inside you will need your birth certificate or passport for proof of citizenship and a photo identification like a driver's license. Make sure you check in an be get a number so you can be called. This is similar to the way DMV works. Place could use a cleaning other than that as long as you have your proper identification you should be able to take care of your business. This office closes at 4:00 pm suggest that you do not get there later than 3:00pm to go through the check in process
