  The chicken and dumplin's were the BEST I have ever had. The Pork Chop Plate was delicioso!!! Ambiance could be better, but the food couldn't be any better. Hands down, this place rocks the food!!!! So who really cares about ambiance, didn't go there for romance, ended up falling in love - with the food.

  Best country cooking/soul food you'll find in Corpus Christi. Reminds me of home. Nobody holds a candle to their greens, chicken and dumplins, or turkey dinner!! They have very tasty desserts too. But my favorite part is the people. Don Porter is just as comfortable serenading you while you eat as he is talking to you about life in general. The whole staff never forgets a face, and they treat you like family. If you haven't been by Portis, you're missing out!

  I really enjoyed myself today. I had greens & cornbread, rice & gravy & Fried Chicken and I just ate my 2nd piece about 8:30 pm and it wasn't dried out. The cook greeted us with kindness and the owner was gracious and informative about his eating place. Said Al Capone once hid out there. Lol And the owner Dr Portis took a few pictures with Moms.
