I come from a long line of pluckers. My mother plucked, my grandmother plucked, my aunt plucked. As a teenager, I just picked up the habit--I can't even tell you if it was necessary, but that's what was done. While my mother is light haired, I am not. At 18 I was told I had PCOS, but was never really "treated" for it. As I grew up, I never noticed an abnormal amount of facial hair but like any young woman, got used to grooming myself with waxing and tweezing. Enter motherhood. When I became pregnant with my first child, I definitely noticed an increase in facial hair and its thickness and quickness to reappear. I continued to pluck and wax as a daily regime. After a second pregnancy close to the other, I became so self-conscious about the dark facial hair on my chin and jawline. I tried waxing at a popular salon for months, but saw no difference (I was told the hair should become finer and lighter). I was very uncomfortable in my body. Coupled with post-partum depression after my babies, I really had a hard time recognizing myself. I was self-conscious speaking with others, even my husband. He never said a word, but he did notice when I would sit awkwardly trying to position my hands over my chin as I spoke. I heard about Perfect Touch Electrolysis through advertising and friends. I spoke with my husband the effects of my facial hair woes, and we decided we had nothing to lose looking into it. I made an appointment with Pnina, who was honest with me, very knowledgeable in her field and completely nonjudgmental. She didn't promise miracles. I also wasn't the worst she ever saw. She told me I'd have to be committed, and keep coming back. I wanted to know how many session it would take to remove my facial hair on my chin & jaw line--6 weeks? 6 months? She couldn't tell me a certain 'x' times would do the trick... There are no instant results but the results would show themselves, and they would last. She was upfront about her pricing and gave me reading materials to take home. I probably hemmed and hawwed for a month. My husband encouraged me to begin electrolysis--not for vanity reasons, I knew he was attracted me to and loved me unconditionally--but recognizing that my self-image of myself had really taken a blow. The electrolysis became part of my healing process and journey to be healthy mind/body/spirit... (in addition to exercise, therapy, anxiety medication and learning to be kind to myself in my new role as a mother). My OBGYN prescribed topical ointment I could apply before sessions to lesson the pain. I went every week. The pain was tolerable, not terrible by any means. For many weeks I had an hour appointment. After 6 weeks my husband asked if I thought I might be done soon, and I replied negative. After three months, we realized this process was going to cost us more than we originally thought but the sessions were getting shorter. Pnina's pricing is very fair and she knows exactly what she's doing. She has a very positive, calm presence and I felt she cared about me as a person. She understood why I was willing to invest the money in her services and would show me regularly how she went out of her way to accommodate scheduling conflicts, or take an extra five minutes to make sure I looked my best when leaving. Overall I went to Pnina for about a year. The session times went from an hour to 45 minutes, 30 minutes, 15 minutes... and eventually I didn't have to go each week either. It is such a confidence booster. When I became pregnant with my third child, Pnina altered her techniques. Pnina is really such a joy to work with and a pleasure to be around. Have patience and commitment, and the results really do show and stay. The hair has not grown back, even with my pregnancy hormones.
