If you are someone who may be afraid of going to the dentist like most of us are, don't be when you visit Dr. Gruell dental surgeon. He and his staff really made me feel comfortable with questions and the procedures. The experience was not bad at all when having some of teeth extracted. The are very kind and understand.

Dr. Gruell has been doing my dental work since I was 14 years of age. I am now 54. In my opinion he is the best Dentist on the Island bar none...with what ever work was to be performed has been painless and professional. If you have to have an injection to numb you prior to dental work...your in for a surprise...his method of application is practically painless. I would and do recommend Dr. Gruell to everyone in the Alameda/Bay area that needs any dental work. Nothing but the best in this office...two thumbs up in my book!

Dr Gruell is the best dentist ever! He is a skilled surgeon (I had a tooth extraction, root canals and crowns). He has a wonderful chair-side manner, very sensitive and gentle and is the only dentist I have seen who was able to give me a pain-free injection without me ever feeling the needle go in my gum. He is really technically advanced while being friendly and helpful at the same time. I am really pleased with how amazing he has made my smile look and how comfortable everything was. Every one of his team is great, and very helpful and friendly. You will be glad you found Dr Gruell and his wonderful team, I know I am :)

I had been a patient of Dr. Gruell for almost 20 years. I consistently had my teeth cleaned 3 to 4 times a year. Initially, I had quite a bit of work done, but over the years the "dental visits for procedures" became fewer and I left my cleanings with the impression that I was doing everything right. When my husband had a bad experience with Dr. Gruell he suggested that I get another opinion about the state of my teeth. I went to two different dentists, both informed me that I had multiple things wrong with my teeth which included two root canals and a broken tooth at the back. I was quite taken a back by this considering the "good feedback" I had been getting in Dr. Gruells office. Currently, I am going through multiple procedures to fix these problems. I am surprised because I felt that I had a clean bill of health from Dr. Gruell. I got the same diagnosis from two different dentists. My new dentist is currently fixing old fillings that were "roughly and improperly done". When my husband went into complain about our dental concerns, Dr. Gruell went into great lengths about what a bad patient I was and how I didn't brush my teeth properly. I felt that this was very unprofessional and hurtful and am surprised because he left me with the impression that everything was OK other than one spot that needed to be watched. I am very happy with my new dentist. I didn't realize how uncomfortable I was with Dr. Gruell until I got a new dentist.

Dr. Gruell seemed like an excellent dentist for years but then I never had any problems with my teeth. On my first visit he recommended pulling all of my back teeth. That concerned me because I always thought that the back teeth were the anchor teeth and should never be pulled. Dr Gruell was my dentist for almost 20 years. I finally left when he recommended a series of very expensive procedures that I didn't feel were necessary. I had been thinking of leaving Dr. Gruell for a while. Whenever I brought up any concerns with Dr. Gruell he kept telling me what a great doctor he was and how he is at the forefront of dental practice. After I left him, I sat down and explained to him why I left. During our conversation I felt that he insulted my wife. I felt much better about leaving after that. My new dentist (not Dr. Gruell) is wonderful. I don't feel the same pressure when I'm meeting with him. He's much more pleasant, professional and informative to talk with. He also treats his staff with respect and courtesy.
