::Cute park...if only it were open. For some reason it says it doesn't open until 2:00 on school days, but what's worse is that I'm writing this at nearly 3pm and it's still not open. No number to reach them either.

::After nearly 7 years of blood sweat and tears, the Village Neighborhood Association (VNA), in collaboration with the Jersey City Parks Coalition ,the City of Jersey City, and the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy, is proud to announce the opening of the newly renovated Village Park. The parkβs chain-link gates were locked in 1984 after only ten years of being unveiled as part of then-Mayor Paul Jordanβs βLegacy of Parksβ campaign. Within that span, the park suffered irreparable damage due to vandalism, crime, and a lack of general maintenance. Village residents had no other recourse but to shut down the park. Consequently, deterioration and further vandalism virtually turned the site into a neighborhood eyesore and embarrassment. Times have changed. The Village, like other Downtown Jersey City residential districts, is undergoing a real estate and cultural renaissance. The VNA, a non-profit corporation formed by Village residents, was determined to reinvent the First Street Park (now Village Park) site into a neighborhood amenity that will erase all civic scars and add to the Villageβs ongoing rebirth
