::Why doesn't the community get together and clean up the place. Then raise money to put a fence around it?
Katherine Gibbons
::This is an historic cemetery for the people of color from the post Civil War days. It was cleaned up a few years ago by a senior gentleman and a troop of Boy Scouts and has a Historic marker on the 28th Street side. These burials are from the black community that was started by the descendants of slaves from a local plantation. They owned homes on 28th Street and Beach Street and Eleanor Street and where the concrete slab is was their Church. A wood frame, one room, Church with two outhouses directly behind it. One for men and one for the women. To my knowledge a couple of homes on Beach are still in their possession and lived in as are the homes on Eleanor. Respect folks, for their history. I lived just beyond there on Beach Street and they were very good neighbors.

::Broken headstones, unmarked graves, unkept grounds, no fence around it. I love walking through cemeteries to clear my head but walking into this particular one... Its depressing! The worst kept cemetery I've ever seen!!

::It's kind of a sad cemetery, not that all cemeteries aren't sad, but this one doesn't even have a fence around it and it's right next to a road.
