Heh, I've never been to a proper butcher before, usually buying steaks at Morton Williams/Food Emporium/Stop N' Shop/Publix, where it's kinda hit-and-miss to get a nice, thick, steak. So now that I'm learning to cook, I've found that I can't even really cook thin steaks reliably. I can't stick a meat thermometer in them! So I went to Ottomanelli Bros today - it's a little bit out of my way, and I had to take the Q train one stop - and found my way over to York avenue. It's a nice old fashioned place! I got a great cut of sirloin, about 1 pound, for only a buck or two more than the supermarket... I was actually expecting to pay more, but this was a nice surprise. Once I cooked it, I was quite happy that I'd gone out of my way :) I like this place, and I bet I'll be back.

Best roast beef sandwich you'll ever have in your life. I've been living UES Manhattan for 7 years and have eaten at plenty of Delis all over NYC, including ones that make it on TV, and Ottomanelli's Butcher Shoppe at 82nd and York Ave in Manhattan will beat them all...you're getting a meat sandwich at a 100+ year old butcher shoppe on the Upper East Side...i mean you really can't go wrong. Come eat sandwiches here !!!

Great quality meat, great selection, extremely friendly staff. I feel so blessed to live near a real, old-school butcher shop like this one!

If you want excellent quality meat, this is where you come. ( This isn't the butcher shop that's associated with investigation that recently came up it was in Ottomanelli & Sons Meat Market. Completely different from this location.)
