  I've gotten some GREAT stuff here, and the owner is a cool lady. Definitely on the cramped side, but it's not a big deal -- more stuff to look around at. Will say it's pretty hard to browse, though, so it's best to come in with a goal in mind.

  Great comic store. Cramped with a ton of comics , modern and back issues. They have a section for books rated 18+ (not porn) so don't expect to get any of those if you're >18.

  A long time fixture to the University/Hillcrest area. This is an old school comic book shop, and NOT a spot for browsing. There are a few types of different comic book shops, and this is the type that believes "our strategy is to pack as MUCH stuff as we can into our small business." There are books on top of books and boxes on top of boxes on top of boxes. PROPS: The people running this store care a great deal about comics, the community, and having unique books that other shops won't. SLOPS: On Comic Ground reminds me of a bad antique store that is so full of "treasures" that you can hardly walk around.

  Basing this on my experience there over the weekend. First thing is that there are a ton of boxes in the middle of the store that do not appear to be in any significant order. Makes it very hard to move around in the store, and for me made it hesitant to ask for more backdated issues. Which is weird, because the racks containing the more current issues (w/in the last six mos.) are pretty organized and current. I was even able to find a couple of NM back issues of Lazarus and Alex + Ada which none of the other stores carry any more. There is also a pretty decent collection of trades on another wall and all of them were bagged and alpha-chron sorted. That said, I did not experience the rudeness of the staff at all. The woman who facilitated my sale was actually quite nice. Sometimes a comic book store has one person who's an elitist and kind of a jerk and sours the rep for the rest of the staff/the entire store, and I'm wondering whether that is the case here. Honestly, if the store did something with the boxes that are right in the middle of the store, I'd lay money that this place would get better word of mouth. I see a diamond in the rough here that could be improved by taking a day or two to dump some dead weight.
