::My father-in-law purchased 4 plots at Eastlawn back in the 70's. My mother in law passed away in 1986. The cemetery was well maintained at that time. When my daughter died in 2012, her grandfather gave us one of their plots. It is one of the worst decisions we made. The grounds and roads are in shambles. If you are fortunate enough to have a plot near a sprinkler it is probably somewhat green, if not it is burning up. When I asked the caretaker, his comment was "this cemetery sprinkler system is antiquated and the cemetery doesn't make enough money to update it." It is inundated with nettle weeds. About a year after her death someone systematically stole most of the vases from the headstones. After complaining, we ordered a much less expensive as well as less attractive composite vase. It was at least 6 months before we could get the replacement, "it was back ordered". I had a wreath that her small children and I made the first fall after she died. I put it out every year, last year it was gone. When I called to inquire, I was told "there is a trailer that we put everything in" What they neglected to say is, it is locked and there is no personnel available for you to look in the trailer. I just came from there this weekend, her grave has sunken yet again, the lawn is burned, the roads are rutted, you must drive around large potholes in the road just to reach the gravesite. I may never go out there again as it is so disheartening. If you value the final resting place of your deceased love one, do not choose Eastlawn! I am positive this was not the vision my in-laws had when they purchased these lots. Updated 9/25/2017 After much ado about the conditions at Eastlawn, I pursued finding an answer to the conditions, I am pleased to say that this year there has been a complete turn around in conditions from last year. While it is not picture perfect I see many needed improvements have been done. I find the property to be more in keeping with other cemeteries in the metro area. My thank you to Matt and the grounds crew for making the changes needed to make this respectable again.
