::If you're on the lower east side, this is a pretty cool thing to see. Historic building was home to NYC's first lending library. Later it became a dispensary. The terra cotta molding around the doors and windows is fantastic. Hard to believe it has survived in such great shape. On 2nd Ave between St. Mark's and 9th St on the edge of Alphabet City. Fun neighborhood - mixture of gentrified and definitely not. Next door . . . Otto's Tacos. Best in NYC

::Small selection of books. When I went here I was yelled at by two separate crazy homeless people (in the library). I was trying to walk into an aisle to look at a certain author and this homeless lady had dumped all of her stuff right in front of the P authors and yelled at me for being so rude as to ask politely if I could look at the books in that aisle. The other lady clapped in my face and yelled that I was in the way and told me I was very rude. These seem to be the common inhabitants of the library so if you want to browse in peace I suggest a different branch.

::Pretty good library, but straight up slowest elevator I've ever used in my life. It didn't really interfere with the library's function, but I'm not kidding, this thing was so slow it's worth mentioning.
