::I had a pretty terrible experience here while taking Maritime basic/Advanced Firefighting. The instructors are very knowledgeable about firefighting tactics, and their associated equipment. However, fighting fires aboard a ship is completely different than one in a domestic, land based environment. There was no discussion of securing ventilation/power, quick disconnects, remote fuel shutoff valves, etc. as well as fixed firefighting systems. These are concepts that are drilled into the heads of merchant mariners, and the fact that they hardly ddressed shows many conceptual errors on behalf of the instructors. We didn't even use AFFF to fight class B fires! We had to go into a fire to shut an arbitrary fuel valve. This scenario wouldn't exist in a real world scenario, because CFRs do not permit similar systems anywhere in the country. There are many schools across the country that offer this course. I chose to attend here because it was close to home. The next time I renew, I will take it elsewhere, where the facilities are better, and the instructors have maritime experience. Plus, Chief Price is in desperate, desperate need of retirement. His rudeness and condescension made my experience in this class intolerable. I paid money to be there and don't feel that I got my money's worth.
