  My 11 yr old has been taking drum lessons with Nolan, in our home for several months. Right away he was taken with Nolan- a real life drummer. I sought out lessons because my normally confident, high achieving son was fascinated but intimated by the drums. They look so hard! Nolan showed up with a drum kit for the first lesson as we had nothing yet. Taught my child a basic beat and fill and he was sold! Since our focus now is getting him experience for school band next year, they are working through all the beginning rudiments and have started the "Stick Control" book. He even let him write his own beat to keep him interested. He already had the drumming bug but that was a perfect thing to add. Nolan knows drums and he knows what boys want to learn to do. I have helped some during my son's alone practice sessions by being a metronome for him and his understanding of how notes fit into a measure. But otherwise, my son has taken off past anything I could help with, eager to learn and replicate and improve what Nolan has introduced him to. Nolan goes at my son's pace and with his occasional "I can't do it" on something he doesn't master immediately, Nolan doesn't miss a beat (pun) and tells him he can and to slow it down. And he does and it works. He never pushes but my son wants to do the things Nolan gives him to do. He meets my son where he is and helps him get to where he needs to go. My son is extremely busy with sports and the in-home lessons and scheduling flexibility that is TOTALLY UP TO ME is a Godsend. My son doesn't have a lot of time at home during Spring but he jumps on his drums in between homework and play because he loves this. He is everything you ever wanted in an organizer, customer service, and concern for clients' happiness. There is no ball-dropping or unanswered questions dealing with Kellen. And trust me I had a million. He took all the time I needed. And Nolan-- for my son he is interesting (cool) and motivating because of his manner, but not intimidating. For Mom- he is prompt, knowledgeable, focused, flexible and very easy to get along with, even if a Mom comes around a lot at first, lol. Just give them a try, you'll be spoiled to have a wonderful, affordable teacher come to your home. You will never want to cart your kid to another activity again.
