  Helpful staff and they have what you need. They have a cute typewriter that kids love to play on.

  If you have a craft idea Michael's has the answer. It is easy to spend hours in this store. The only disappointment is the frequency at which inventory is moved around. But this gives you time to get some more ideas.

  Had some employee talk down to me and my girlfriend for trying to navigate the unorganized shirt isle. This woman walked up to us and said “this is not how we do things here. we do not take these and ball them up and throw them like we don’t care about who works here.” I explained to her that we were looking for a specific size but she continued to talk to us (highschoolers) like we were incompetent children. I love this store, I really do, but this lady ruined our valentines date completely. Long story short me and my girlfriend felt uncomfortable enough to fix the whole isle and that one confrontation set the tone for the rest of the night. Anyways, you’re welcome michaels. if you want to make it up to us give us a couple free copic markers. If you’re reading this lady, happy Valentine’s Day.

  Ok.. speaking as someone who likes to create, and I have to say that the Michael's in downtown Silver Spring has decent employees, the overall experience is so-so. The prices, for the quality of product, and compared to other arts stores, are too high for what you are paying for, and it seems that the staff isn't too enthusiastic about art, nor well versed in arts and crafts, but I can't really blame them, that's up to leadership. And lastly, I think it might just be the location, being that Silver Spring is more commercial, and not so artist-oriented (compared to neighbor Takoma Park). So, yes, this review will be a little biased, considering other art stores I've been to. To be more diplomatic about it, a Micheal's store in a location like downtime Silver Spring probably won't be the first place a professional or even aspiring artist would go to for quality products (or just the experience). So, laying the ego (and frustration aside), this would be like going to the 7-11 version of a craft store - drop in if it's near by, and pick something up out of convenience.

  Customer service is phenomenal. Staff helped me fund what I needed, and when there was a pricing discrepancy they were very helpful and worked with me to get the best price. I'll definitely be back.
