  Matteo is an excellent teacher. He breaks down complex moves into component parts and spends a lot of time (weeks on a sequence) drilling them into his students so that they become a part of mind-muscle memory. He's great with kids as well as adults; very patient. He's also an excellent competitor and human being himself, someone his students can be proud of. The atmosphere here is friendly and supportive and competitive in a healthy way. Every martial arts school has one or two jerks (guys who go too hard against lower ranks, the opposite gender, etc.), but this school doesn't. Matteo doesn't allow it.

  Matteo is one of the best instructors in the westcheter/Putnam county area. he pays extreme attention to detail and is very easy to learn from. If you are a practitioner or just starting out, try Matteo BJJ and see for yourself.

  MatteoBJJ is located inside of a strength and conditioning gym (Massi-Machado), next to The Daily Bagel. The instructor Matteo is a brown belt under Black Belt Jojo Guarin (Carlson Gracie lineage), and is a highly skilled athlete. Matteo's attention to detail on techniques are fantastic, and his lesson plans are thought out and executed over a week basis. The classes usually start with a conditioning warm-up/workout, followed by 2-3 techinques that are broken down, which you will do multiple timed repetitions on with a partner. Once class is over, the mats are open to spar/roll. The atmosphere is very friendly, and you're quick to become family there. I definitely recommend training here.
