::Going to a hospital is never a happy thing but I can say that my visit there was excellent. Guys at Audiology, Pediatric and Radiology departments were polite and friendly and made my 5y little lady feel very confortable. Besides that in 3 hours all the exams, diagnostic and treatment defined.

::After receiving 1 dose of J&J I developed severe headaches, vertigo, and most notably extreme tinnitus/ringing in my ears within about 48 hours. Doctor after doctor I had my symptoms ignored. Finally I went to Mass Eye and Ear. The first Mass Eye and Ear doctor told me it was from living with cats (I have been living with cats for over 20 years). The ER there sent me home with a piece of paper saying that I had tinnitus on it. Another doctor there was kind enough to give me an MRI/CTScan, but refused to blame my problem on what had obviously caused it. Now here I am almost 2 years later, still suffering, still wondering what happened. This place basically ignored me. They ignored everything that I said had started after vaccination despite the fact that J&J now list this on their website as one of the side effects (persistent ringing in the ears), and then they sent me home in tears. I would not recommend this hospital.

::The main reason why I’m giving the Mass Eye and Ear three stars as opposed to five stars is because there appears to be a major staffing shortage at this facility during the overnight hours. Early yesterday morning (12/27/2022), I came into the emergency department around 4:30am due to an otology issue that I’ve been dealing with that needed to be addressed on an emergent basis. Upon arrival to the emergency department, I was delighted to see that there was nobody else waiting to be seen in the emergency department, especially since I was in a significant amount of pain and wanted the issue to be addressed quickly. I was completely wrong for assuming this. After the nurse triaged me, she mentioned that there was only ONE doctor on duty for the entire Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary and that it may take awhile for the doctor to be able to come down to the emergency department to see me since he was managing the inpatient units. It took TWO AND A HALF HOURS (I was seen a little after 7am) for me to be seen by a physician’s assistant in a completely empty emergency room (and this was only because the shift had changed since I saw the PA walk in for the day). Why bother even having an emergency room and nurses on staff if you aren’t even equipped with the providers needed to be able to see patients on an emergent basis during the overnight shift? Why don’t you just refer patients to Mass General when you don’t have the staffing as opposed to making them wait for hours only to not be seen until the morning? What would’ve you done if there was a large number of patients in the emergency room overnight waiting to be seen and only had that one doctor managing all of the patients in the hospital? Once I waited TWO AND A HALF HOURS in an empty emergency department to be seen, the physician’s assistant who was assigned to my case was overall very knowledgable, helpful, and caring. I just wish that I had received this level of care much earlier than I actually did and that could’ve happened if there were more providers on duty during the overnight shift and if there were physicians specifically designated to the emergency department during the overnight hours to care for patients who come in, especially during times where there are higher than usual patient volumes (luckily this wasn’t the case when I was there but I imagine that it can be at times, especially earlier into the night shift). I would not recommend this emergency department to any patients considering emergency care in the middle of the night. Go to Mass General instead. At least there are ER doctors on staff there.

::The pediatric surgery team was excellent, they made my son feel so at ease both before and after his surgery. The staff is calm and positive, with a lot of distractions for the children like music therapy, tablets, movies and toys. A cannot recommend MEEI enough to anyone considering going there over a rural hospital. There is a reason MEEI is one of the top hospitals in the country.

::Clear the day if you have an appointment. Had an appointment at 2pmand was stuck waiting until 6:37pm and was never seen . Happened three times . All they want is the money or you to show up. And they lie about prescriptions AND to make matters worse, they won't own up to messing up on my Cornea atransplant surgery !!! Stitches came lose within a month . If I could I'd put negative 2 stars in complete honesty !
