    I. Love. This. Bar. Maybe it's because I get homesick for Ireland, and the copper bar tops and detailed wooden accents remind me of Galway bars, but this place just feels welcoming and warm. Drinks are great. Prices are better. Food is exactly what you want when you're drunk, and the crowd is usually pretty chill. I steer clear on Friday's and Saturday's so as not to get caught in the college crowd meat grinder, but it's still my favorite bar ever.

Mary Carroll's. Scary Mary's, Cary Marroll's. This bar holds a special place in my heart as I'm sure it does to the various heathens that choose this little piece of heaven to be their sanctuary. You see, I grew up in this bar, learned how to ride a bike here, first Christmas... you get the idea. The dark wood and warm velvet stools make you feel like you are back in the womb nursing a milky Guiness through the umbilical cord that is your mouth hole. When I am here, I am happy; I feel safe. My waxing alcoholism takes a back seat to the love that fills my being as soon as I pass over the stone threshold. My spirit gets imbued with vigor and I feel truly ready to wreck myself without even the faintest hint of checking myself. ANYWAY... They have a two page long whiskey list from around the world and a beer selection that has the classics as well as delectable domestic and irresistible imported lagers, ales and stouts. The expanded dining area is warm and welcoming. The newly redesigned menu has elevated the cuisine from slightly above regular bar food standards to "mad crazy decent" level. I highly recommend the steak sandwich. Weekdays are perfect. Quiet bar room banter fills the room, good people mill about and give you a warm smile as you enter, good music on the jukebox . The weekends are a mix between the right side of Hieronymus Bosch's famous triptych "The Garden of Earthly Delights" and the left side. If you could imagine that. (if not get on google and check that out) After 2am it is terrifying but beautiful like a lion ripping the throat from a pregnant gazelle. All I can say is if you have never been, come down and raise a glass to the best damn bartender in the world, Zo. To zo wherever he may be.

I've lived in this town for over 30 years and been to MC numerous times. It's an Irish pub feel. It's cute inside. However, It seriously lives up to its known town reputation. During the week it's blessed with a few regular mature patrons. Weekends are a pure young rowdy college crowed. This bar has always had a reputation within the surrounding Babylon towns as being a snobbish "click". And after 30 years, (for the first time) I experienced that recently while trying to speak to someone about hosting a gathering there. Now this would make $$ for them. You would think they would be interested, right? However, the 15 y/o behind the bar rolled the owner Conor right under the bus and flat out told me, ...he doesn't check messages on the machine. Nor, will he call you back if he's not interested in an event, or doesn't like the details. Since I didn't hear from him after 3 days, I stopped in and was met by the bubble gum princess. She didn't like my questions and threw me out. Lol. I wasn't even drinking. Lol. Amazingly, Conor called me an hour later. He wasn't any better. Asked what happened, then later said he didn't know about it until I told him, and also proceeded to flat out call me a liar and said whatever she said was truth. Bottom line..... Save yourself the trauma of an immature school click, and go across the street to the Argyle where you will be met with professionalism, maturity, and even pretty delicious food.
