I want to like this place so much, but every-time I go the food is just tragic. Today I got an apple fritter that was completely doughy on the inside. The kitchen staff do not know how to cook eggs (they are always overdone and cold... which takes a special kind of talent). The pastries are mediocre at best, and undercooked at worst. I got a bagel sandwich today and they don't even bother toasting their bagels. I have spent numerous years as a line cook at different restaurants and I can tell that this place is staffed by undertrained employees. Additionally, about the 85 point safety inspection. From my time working in kitchens, I have learned that to get anything under a 90 you have to have a seriously gross kitchen with numerous food items stored improperly. I say all these thing because I would really love to see this promising restaurant get its act together. I love the atmosphere and this place could really be something special if they only worked on getting their kitchen up to snuff.

I have to edit my review, because breakfast here has been disappointing 3 times in a row. The first time my boyfriend and I ate here, I thought it was a great spot for breakfast or brunch with a family-friendly atmosphere, and really tasty donuts, but the bacon-sausage biscuits were kind of bland. We though maybe we just didn't order right. But the next time we went, I ordered an easy-over egg on my bagel sandwich and got an over-hard egg. My boyfriend got the hot brown, which turned out to be lunch meat and rubbery eggs stacked on top of biscuits. The biscuits were good, but the rest was not. Thinking we'd give Magee's one more try since it IS within walking distance of our neighborhood, today we ordered avocado bagel sandwiches and an apple fritter. The bagels were soggy and not toasted, and the apple fritter--though lovely and crispy on the outside--was uncooked dough on the inside. Their coffee and atmosphere are great, and the donuts and bagels look tasty from afar. We really want to love this restaurant, but 3 times now we have left feeling disappointed.

Only come for the donuts! Iā€™ve always heard great things about Mageeā€™s so I have it a try. I ordered the avocado bacon bagel (breakfast) the cashier asked me what kind of bagel and whether I wanted it toasted, by the time I paid I had a $2 upcharge and the total came to $9.28 in tax. The bagel was burned, tomato was green, and ā€œavocadoā€ was brown liquid goop - definitely not worth it but the bacon, egg, & cheese were good. I decided to give it one more shot and ordered a caramel cake donut and regular glazed donut to go. Both were amazing! The free full-service coffee bar is a nice touch and much appreciated. The atmosphere is chill and a decent place to hang out for a long chat or work for awhile.

The great atmosphere & a delicious, fresh chicken biscuit sold me on Magee's instantly. Their fresh donuts are a delight as well. I would change absolutely nothing about the food. I decided to give only 4/5 stars because the coffee isn't great-- and IMO that's an essential part of breakfast.

Mageeā€™s is an absolutely magnificent local restaurant. They are first and foremost a bakery, so they have delicious donuts, pies, cookies, cakes, croissants, and a variety of other sweet treats. But MY favorite items on the menu are the biscuits and gravy, and the triple threat. B&G is a classic dish, but Mageeā€™s is the best Iā€™ve ever tasted. The biscuits are freshly baked in house, and the sausage gravy is seasoned to perfection. The triple threat is your choice of two between bacon, sausage, and ham, served with your choice of cheese and eggs cooked how you like on a crispy, buttery croissant. They also have pre-packaged baked goods to go which make great gifts and are inexpensive. On top of all of it, the owners are very pleasant people and service is always great. Once or twice in the literally scores of times Iā€™ve been, thereā€™s been some minor error with my order. Theyā€™re always quick to correct and they usually apologize with a free donut or two. Honestly, itā€™s a good thing I moved to a different part of town because it was hard to resist coming in almost every day for breakfast.
