PLEASE READ COMMENTS BEFORE SIGNING A LEASE! Lafayette Towers biggest issue is LITA JOHNSON!!!!! My stay at Lafayette Towers was kinda decent until Lita arrive...The move-out rate is high lots of residents are moving out EAST & WEST tower, the break ins are something crazy IT'S EVERY NIGHT never have company park inside visitor lot THEY CAR WILL BE TRASH THE NEXT MORNING! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT let maintenance enter inside your apartment without you being present..My next door neighbor had a break in $12,000 worth of jewelry & $1200 cash was stolen..This person had a key to get in & had the nerve to lock up her apartment after robbing her & left the bottom lock unlock...Dont feel safe because they have security on duty Lite Johnson has the good guards fired for helping residents to the car or opening doors for them SAVE YOUR MONEY GOOD PEOPLE THE OWNER DOESN'T CARE WHY WOULD LITA JOHNSON STILL BE THERE

I decided to live here based off of recommendations from coworkers. The leasing office pushed my move-in date back from a Tuesday to a Friday so they could "ensure that my unit was in the best possible condition for living." They had to redo the floors. That wasn't a big deal until the leasing office called and told me (didn't ask, straight up told me) that I couldn't move in until Monday. My last day in my previous apartment was that Sunday so I couldn't wait until Monday. Still not a huge deal because I was still moved in by the time my other lease was up (and they covered my first month of rent which was very nice.) I went to my signing appointment and there was an extreme lack of communication from their end. It all started when the lady helping me sign said she would email me my welcome letter the next day and didn't do it until the next week when I had to email her again reminding her. When I went to sign my papers, she never told me I had to sign up to use the freight elevator which caused issues the next weekend when my family came from Ohio to move some furniture in and we didn't have anywhere to put it. When I asked the security guard what to do with my furniture, he said, "I don't know. Send it back to Ohio?" with a very apathetic attitude. Fast forward to my second week living at Lafayette Towers. Lots of annoying little problems, but nothing I couldn't handle, until I sent in a work order to get my cable outlet fixed. Maintenance came to fix it but only replaced the outlet face and not the actual outlet. I sent in another work order to get it redone. A week went by and I heard nothing from maintenance. I had to call the leasing office to speak with the leasing manager. I told her about my frustrations with the leasing office and the lack of communication and she put all of the blame on me, not believing that nothing had been communicated to me. Here I am, seven weeks later, still without any cable/wifi because the complex hasn't even started on a rewire for my unit. They're expecting the process to take another 30 days at the least, but I honestly don't know what to believe. Who knows if it'll end up taking another 7 weeks. TL;DR: Lafayette Towers pushed my move-in date back twice in order to "ensure that my unit was in the best possible condition for living." It's been 7 weeks and I'm still without wifi. If I had known that I'd have to go that long without wifi/cable from the beginning, I absolutely would have gone with a different complex. I'm willing to give Lafayette a chance to improve and gave them seven weeks before writing my first review. After seeing all of the bad Google reviews, I still gave them the benefit of the doubt and decided to give the place a try. If my experience improves, my review will improve as well. UPDATE: Lol. This place is an absolute joke. Only lived here for five months before terminating my lease. From unprofessional management to completely unprofessional security, this has to be one of the most poorly run apartment complexes in the area. Nowhere else will you be woken up at 11:30pm by security guards sitting in the parking lot showing off their new car sound systems to other security guards. After I moved out, it took 45 days to receive my security deposit in the mail. Management shorted me out of $138 (which was fine because I lost one of my keys) and knew they were legally obligated to refund my whole deposit since it wasn't returned until over 30 days after I moved out, but they still tried to short me. They only sent me the rest of my deposit after I threatened to take legal action. DO NOT SIGN A LEASE WITH LAFAYETTE TOWERS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. :)

Although the view is spectacular, don’t expect the staff who work 2 different security checkpoints to actually do their jobs. After finding out how low they are paid hourly, I guess I can expect that cars are routinely broken into. Yes the view is spectacular, but if you’re going to live here, pay extra for garage parking. Half the staff is great, the other half is not.

The building itself is generally nice and well located. My biggest issue is with Lita Johnson, the property manager. As others have said, she can come off as rude and combative. Expect no concern or apology if your vehicle is broken into or stolen. She could care less as the property is 'not responsible'. At the very least I wish that thefts/ break ins on the property would be communicated to residents. At the moment, we only find out when we see broken windows/missing wheels in the parking lot (both resident and guest parking lots). Lita is hiding the severity of the issue from residents! Lita Johnson has asked residents, myself included, to write positive reviews of the Lafayette Towers. I believe in the past she had even offered money off rent in return for a good review. Further, "Deion Washington" whom wrote a 5 star review of the property recently, is not a resident as stated in his review, he works in the office! Lita is gaming the review system. Finally, I don't appreciate the many exorbitant fee's that are applied for just about any paperwork formality. Ex, 100$ for a lost keyfob (these are mass produced items that cannot cost more than a few dollars). I believe that Lita Johnson has lucked out by controlling a historic property in a prime location, otherwise they would be out of business. I am writing this review anonymously because I believe Lita would retaliate and/or hold a grudge against negative but truthful reviewers.

Please re-consider if you're thinking of moving into Lafayette Towers. Better options are available in the Detroit area (see below). The owners/management make no effort to accommodate residences and guests. The appearance of security guards standing around only provides false security as they do not actually secure the premises. DO NOT have your guests park in the visitor lot. Their car will be broken into, and this occurs under "24 hour security". It is either an inside job or complete incompetence. A major factor in my girlfriend's decision to live in Lafayette Towers was the security. For a young woman living alone, this makes sense. The rental fees seemed appropriate for the security. The parking lot is not well lit (no lighting in visitor lot), security are rude, and rarely leave their posts. My girlfriend is not renewing her lease. The location is convenient, but not worth paying deductible after deductible because of repeated break-ins. It is infuriating to have your car broken into, especially when you pay high rental fees to prevent this exact event. What a complete joke. Here, I will do you a favor and list much better/safer apartments in Detroit: 1. The Pavilion 2.Detroit city club 3. Riverfront towers 4. Broderick Tower 5. DuCharme Place
