It's okay, maybe I expected too much? The lighting was more like restaurant lighting (dim) which made it difficult to see the games. A lot of the board games had torn up instructions but none of the ones we played had missing pieces. Cover fee is $15 per person. The staff was also kinda rude, the first thing they said when I walked in was "It's $15", which I already knew, but even if I hadn't known, that's a pretty odd greeting for a first time customer. Then I said that I wanted to see if my friends were there first, and as soon as I took a step and peeked my head around the counter they again demanded "You need to pay $15"! I guess I was just spoiled by the last game cafe I used to frequent (in another state) that one was cheery and well organized, this one felt dingy by comparison. The was also a pretty loud group next to us with lots of alcohol, which was annoying.

It was my first time going to a spot like this, but to explain to the uninitiated: you pay a cover ($15/person on weekends, $10/person on weekdays, and an additional $5/person to bring in your own food/beverages) and can choose from a huge selection of board games to play for as long as you'd like. Also, importantly, it was cash only (at least today - they might take card when their payment system is working). Like a typical cafĂŠ, they sell coffee as well as other foods and beverages to choose from. We came just after lunch but had a brownie ($4), which was rather sweet, and a latte, which was very foamy and apparently unimpressive. It was pretty calm on a Saturday afternoon, with just a few tables filled initially and another handful trickling in while we were there. I loved seeing the piano sitting to the side, with a Beethoven collection displayed on top - it fit right in with the classical music playing in the background. The cafĂŠ feels very cozy; the woman working there was friendly, and I noticed a "hand wash only" sign for the cups that was almost quaint, like we were transported to a village in an older time. We made our way through a few games that were new to me, though someone in the group had played them before (Dixit and 7 Wonders - we asked if they had Bang!, but they did not). Overall, it was a very pleasant time. I do think the $15/person cover fee is pretty steep. I understand the expenses associated with amassing the wide variety of games here, but I wasn't anticipating that price so it unfortunately did affect my perception.

Pros: great game collection, good ambiance Cons: charges $15 on top of food/drinks. does not offer any gluten free options and offers that you can pay $5 for them to allow you to eat your granola bar. Tavern of Tales in mission hill has a wider food/drink selection, outdoor space, and doesn’t charge a fee, I’d recommend over this spot.

Really enjoyed this cool little joint in Brookline! Fun and cozy atmosphere with a surprising variety of items on the menu (drinks, sandwiches, milkshakes, snacky stuff). Had a great time with friends learning how to play a strategy game I’d never heard of before.

Coolest place. The owner has over 1600 board games to try. 15$ a person to play as long as you want (open until 2am), great sandwiches and for a fee you can bring in outside food and drinks also. Small Uzbek restaurant next door!
