::We were greeted by two angry cops who threatened us because we pulled over to get a picture in front of the National Park sign. So that set the tone. Then we tried to go to all the highlights of this, the WORST NATIONAL PARK SITE EVER. Everything, CLOSED. Barricaded off. Signs directing us to go to a different spot, which was also CLOSED, BARRICADED. The woman at the "Camp Store" ran out to head us off at the pass when we tried to enter past the chain-link fence. She eventually ended up being kinda nice. But just a strange place. Driving around every corner seemed sinister. More cops or park rangers, or whatever, just looking threatening at every turn. Very disappointing to any NPS geek. I guess if you're going there to do some minibike riding, or model plane/model boat racing or whatever, this place is fine. If you're going there expecting the usual NPS experience, fuhgeddaboudit! DISCLAIMER: This was a year or two ago when we made our visit, so maybe it's improved vastly since then. Doubt it.

::It was nice to stay in NY for two weeks in an RV for less than $20 a day. Sure we battled 1,000 mosquitos and heard drivers burning rubber in the wee hours of the night... but that is one reason to purchase ear plugs and wear bug spray like a necessary companion. The parking lot was so big that the rubber burners were not a danger to us which is what I mainly care about. Also, if you make it past these obstacles then you've got a good story to tell...and who doesn't like a good story...anybody? Overall, these were small inconveniences in a great big city of fun fun fun!! Thank you Camp Gateway and Ranger Pat...this was a great experience (with some minor annoyances)... ;-)

::Great, affordable, urban camping. Safe, clean bath houses and restrooms, neat activities lead by Parks and Recreation, excellent staff. Staff is honest, and extremely helpful in getting around on trains affordably. Historic planes with tours by retired vets was neat. Only complaint which is no fault of the campgrounds was that mosquitoes were extremely bad. Unlike anything we've ever seen and we've been traveling and camping for years. We returned late each night, hurried into tent (fully covered and with repellent) and left in a haste each morning after showers while taking necessary precautions.

::If you like a campground open to visitors day and night, where people drive at high speed and come drifting in their sports cars, where you have to basically keep your kids on a leash to avoid them being ran over, a place where you won't get any sleep cause the party boats cruise by with blasting music from 1am till 4-5 am, well this is your place! It's not worth 30$ a night... You can't make a fire in the RV section of the campground although you're surrounded by concrete for miles around! The showers don't have a single hook, the ceilings are falling apart and they don't even have hand soap dispensers in the bathroom, so I guess the people working at the camp store never wash their hands properly either.
