Paula Aboud is the best! A highly intelligent, highly skilled, articulate, cordial tax professional. I always ask for Paula.

I've used H&R block for 3 years now and every year the price has been different (anywhere from $69-$129) so this year when I called to make the appointment I asked how much it would be. The woman on the phone said, "let me make you the appointment first and then we can discuss the cost." So after setting up the date and time and giving her all of my information she asked if there was anything else she could help with. I said, "yes, I have a question about the cost." She replied, "I can't tell you that over the phone. You'll have to come in to the office to find out." Why didn't you say that at the beginning of the call? How frustrating.

DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE TO PREPARE YOUR TAXES! I called ahead and set up an appointment. The lady preparing my taxes that day was over a half hour late. She rushed through my taxes. While I was signing the paperwork, I noticed that the date on the tax forms was 3/08/13. Obviously, that is not correct, it's still February right now. So I waited about two hours while she was on the phone with tech support. By the way, apparently all the taxes prepared that day were dated incorrectly, I must have just been the first person to notice. I don't think the issue was even resolved while I was there; I actually watched this woman, who happened to be the "manager" of the store, after a long time on the phone, accidentally hang up on the tech support, then pretend to talk to them while I was there and act like it was resolved. After this circus, I was understandably frustrated and doubtful as to whether my taxes would even be competently filed. Standing at the front desk and waiting for some sort of resolve, the "manager" told me that "the problem is our computers won't allow your taxes to be submitted to the IRS until payment is received." Hmmmm..... I could not believe she was actually asking me to pay for what I went through for over three hours. Obviously I went to a tax service because I wanted my taxes to be conveniently and professionally handled. Then, she looked at me and started taking my paperwork apart and saying, "So, fine, you can go do this online yourself, I can give you back or W-2's, or you can pay me $97..." So, I'd already spent four hours of my life, what would another $97 do at that point? I paid and left and told someone walking in they should go somewhere else. Called the branch manager, who seemed very concerned and told me I would receive a call the next day about my service. I've not heard from anyone, and that was about two weeks ago. It wasn't until yesterday that I realized that I was never asked about expenses for work, which was several hundred dollars this year, or many other things that I filled out when I did my taxes last time using an online software. So, it probably did cost me a lot more than $97 and some time. Do yourself a favor and visit a CPA, or just save your receipts and use a good online software. This place was a joke, and a costly and frustrating disappointment.
