::First, I have to say I am not one to write negative reviews, and I've had nothing but positive experiences with H&R Block in past years, but I've been shown so much discourtesy, disrespect, and incompetence by this company since I filed my taxes with them this year that I frankly don't know what else to do. In short, I filed and paid my taxes well within time and also purchased "Peace of Mind," which I was told guaranteed the original tax liability quoted by H&R Block in case any errors were made in filing. Shortly after, I received notice from the IRS that I owed approximately $780 in addition to what I had been told by H&R Block, and I've received some six IRS letters since then requesting amendments and corrections to my paperwork. I've been sent to four different H&R Block associates (Deborah Khayyat, Eric C. Lynch, Melrose Davies, and another whose name I don't recall -- H&R Block has been unable to give me records of whom I've seen or when) and shuffled between three different office locations, as employees have been furloughed and locations closed during the off-season. I've spent more hours on the phone and at H&R Block's offices than I care to think about. I've repeatedly requested that someone explain to me what was filed incorrectly in my taxes and whether my "Peace of Mind" will cover the additional expenses. I still have no answer to the first question, and today I found out that my Peace of Mind is worthless. According to a letter I just received from H&R Block, my Peace of Mind claim has been denied because my "return was prepared correctly based on the information you provided to use during tax preparation." No mention of the repeated back-and-forth with the IRS, the paperwork that according to the IRS itself was not properly completed... I've been trying to reach the latest tax associate who's been handling my case, Melrose at the 3200 Broadway location, or Jacinta Friend, another tax associate at the same location who's familiar with my case, by phone and email for the past two weeks. I just spoke with someone at their office and was informed that Jacinta has been furloughed for a few months, and Melrose has been out of town and won't be back until next Monday. I would have appreciated being told this when I left previous messages and sent previous emails. Aside from writing this review, apparently the only recourse I have is to write an email to H&R Block's corporate office. I've been told there's no one I can discuss the matter with over the phone. So, after writing this review, I'll be wasting another chunk of my time writing one more email and trying to get this sorted out once and for all. I cannot emphasize enough how upsetting this entire experience has been, making it impossible for me to assess my finances and draining away my time for months. I will absolutely NEVER give H&R Block my business again, and I recommend that anyone reading this do the same.
