::If there was a star level less than one I would put that... We are very familiar with this Gelsons store as both my husband and I grew up in the Hollywood hills. When the store was Mayfair years ago, my husband and his siblings all worked here at various times. We’ve watched Mayfair turn into Gelson’s and watch them grow over the years. But I felt compelled to share my experience recently, as it speaks to the evolution of the store to what it is today... I purchased our first holiday meals from Gelson's today. Normally one would expect the quality of anything at Gelson's to be well above average of either a restaurant or your local supermarket. I purchased a turkey and a ham meal neither of which came heated and ready to serve. Secondly, when I called to ask a deli associate for assistance over the phone to place your order it was like pulling teeth. At first they didn't even know what I was talking about and it took several attempts to get my order at all, let alone correct. The meals are sub-standard for any restaurant or grocery store let alone an establishment such as Gelson's. With your primary meat, you get a side of bland mashed potatoes, some California blend vegetables that you can literally purchase in a frozen bag from Costco with a little bit of seasoning added, something that they called a sweet potato soufflé which was nothing more than mashed yams with some ginger flavoring, cranberry sauce & gravy. This meal cost you either 120 or $130. It is not even worth $60. I purchased a third meal a two person meal for my parents as today was not only Easter but their anniversary. Gelsons would not substitute the few pieces of ham for brisket which is what they really wanted but they didn't want the brisket dinner. So I had to buy brisket separately I wish I had taken a picture of it. The brisket slices looked like dried leather and the server put some au jus sauce in a container next to it which he probably should've put on it to keep it moist as it was already dry. If you look on the website at that picture of the beef brisket shown, it looks like tender roast beef. The meat resembled beef jerky, absolutely nothing compared to what the website shows as beef brisket. My parents were equally as disappointed as we were. To add insult to injury, the meals come in plastic containers which were wrapped tightly with saran wrap probably so that they wouldn't drip in the car during transportation. However, some of the sides came in those tin foil containers with no lid, so they were wrapped tightly with saran wrap. The reheat instructions that come with the meal instruct you to place the containers directly in the oven, with no mention of removing the saran wrap, which is placed over the foil containers. Had I read and executed as instructed, my meal would've been ruined by melted plastic wrap on my mashed potatoes and my California blend vegetables rather than just being ruined by the poor quality of the meal and it's entirety. I would never recommend purchasing a holiday meal at Gelson's, ever! This was the worst experience I have ever had, I'm so disappointed with the quality and I'm disgusted that I spent over $300 on this horrific meal.

::Regional SoCal Super Market franchise. I have purchased mostly prepared food and drinks from them. It appears they are trying to strike a balance between upscale and affordable.

::Gelsons on the pricey side but we'll worth it. Produce never a let down and chicken aioli the best

::Gelson's continues to be one of the better grocery shopping experiences in town. They have a great beer / wine selection, and the staff is always friendly. The shelves are always clean, and the products are always uniformly facing outwards (a small but significant detail). I also really enjoy their premade side selection. The thing I'm not as excited about is the price of their produce. It is pretty pricey compared to other stores in the area.

::The market part is fine..this is solely based on there deli. Been here numerous times for family gatherings at the park, grab a pizza, some sandwiches, usually decent, everyone's. sorta happy..last three or four times if been in, it has been terrible...this last visit the other day sealed it..I purchased a pizza, seemed slapped together, zero thought of taste, gross and uneatable. We ended up throwing it in the trash..truly disgusted..I will never purchase food from here again..sad really. Someone eeds to conduct a meeting on food accountability and customer service..
