::Three images attached. The one with the most hazy view across the river is by William Henry Bartlett (1809-1854), an original documenter of the sites of the Hudson River for European audiences, Bartletts' subject here is the abandoned Fort which predated West Point. Jasper Francis Cropsey (1823-1900) painted the view which includes the bare tree; an oddity for a painter who reveled in the treasure of the autumn colors. It may reflect the ruins of the Fort Putnam The most lush rendering was painted by Thomas Cole (1801-1848), the patriarch of the Hudson River School of landscape painting. This site became a subject for several painters, in part due to the association of the Fort with the glorious Revolution, and the air of ruins when the Fort fell into disuse
