::I've been a member since 2008 and have had zero issues. I don't do too much banking; sometimes mobile deposits, internal/external transfers, but that's about it. I have a debit card. Honestly, I've been quite pleased as a member. I've banked with larger companies and I don't get the same level of service, just more fees and red-tape.

::I bank with Kane County Teachers Credit Union (CU). There's only 3 locations, maybe 4 now, all located in the suburbs. This is their sister CU for transactions needed far from home base. Very convenient and great customer service. You'll need your State ID or DL to check in with security in the main lobby then you will be escorted to the elevator and they will badge you up to the 28th floor. It's a five to seven minute walk from my gig.

::My experience with FNCU was incredibly frustrating. I tried to open a new account upon moving to Chicago. Even after providing evidence of purchasing a home in Chicago and providing multiple other pieces showing Chicago residency I still faced significant difficulty in opening an account. After 5 days of back and forth I still couldn’t get satisfactory help. I have always used credit unions and have never had this many issues in opening an account. I will take my business elsewhere and would recommend others do that same.

::I have used FNCU and have always been very pleased with the service and costs for loan products. This week I have been working with Michael Arturi over the phone and email to help me pay off and transfer title on a car I am selling that they hold the note on, it was a somewhat complex process to do for me so I depended on Michael and his follow up was excellent and he dug for the I formation and process steps on my behalf which has been a huge help. FNCU has been a great credit union that I am very happy with.

::This review applies to my interaction with First Northern in general, not to any specific branch. I am rating one star due to a recent negative experience. I had just paid off my auto loan called to requested the vehicle title. I spoke with Patty V of the lending department, who had a bad attitude. She checked the records and told me that the title would be put in the mail the next day. Two weeks later, I still hadn't received the title, so I called back for a status update. I was told that there was a stack of titles that needed to go out and that it would be sent out by the end of the week. Another week passes and I still didn't receive the title, and I was moving to a new apartment as my lease was up. I call back again, and now I'm told that the title had been sent out on the day that I had called to request the title in the first place! They tried to blame it on the fact that I had changed my address in the online system, but I hadn't done so until 2 weeks after the date that they claim to have sent it. I looked up the cost to obtain a replacement from the Illinois Secretary of State, and it is $95. The representative refused to do anything to mitigate the cost, despite this being 100% their screw-up. I asked them whether they would consider using some sort of mail with tracking for sending out such important documents with some sort of tracking. The response "the Secretary of State sends them out in the regular mail too." That should be all that you need to know about the state of customer service at First Northern. I will be sure to take my business elsewhere for my future banking needs. Think twice about dealing with people who lose vehicle titles and refuse to even apologize to customers for doing so.
